Abstract: A method of operating network infrastructure equipment in a wireless telecommunications network comprising the network infrastructure equipment and a terminal device, wherein the terminal device is operable to transmit uplink reference signalling to support measurements of radio channel conditions between the terminal device and the network infrastructure equipment, wherein the method comprises: receiving, from the terminal device, uplink reference signalling in accordance with a first uplink reference signalling configuration; determining the terminal device should be configured to transmit uplink reference signalling in accordance with a second uplink reference signalling configuration; and transmitting a paging message for the terminal device, wherein the paging message comprises an indication of an identifier for the terminal device and an indication of the second uplink reference signalling configuration.

Abstract: A method of operating first and second terminal devices for transmitting data in a device-to-device communication mode in a wireless telecommunications system supporting communications on a first carrier operating over a first frequency band and a second carrier operating over a second frequency band. The first terminal device transmits control signalling on the first carrier and this is received by the second terminal device. The control signalling comprises an indication of that the first terminal device intends to transmit data to the second terminal device using the device-to-device communication mode on the second carrier after a carrier switch-over time. The first terminal device then proceeds to transmit data to the second terminal device on the second carrier using the device-to-device communication mode after the carrier switch-over time. The first and second terminal devices may cease communications on the second carrier after a carrier switch-back time.

Abstract: A communications device transmitting/receiving signals to/from a mobile communications network includes one or more network elements providing a wireless access interface for the communications device. The wireless access interface includes plural communications resource elements across a host frequency range of a host carrier, and a first section of the communications resources within a first frequency range for preferable allocation to reduced capability devices forming a first reduced bandwidth carrier and a second section of the communications resources within a second frequency range for preferable allocation to the reduced capability devices forming a second reduced bandwidth carrier. Each of the first and second frequency ranges is within the host frequency range. The communications device is configured with a reduced capability to receive the signals only within a frequency bandwidth less than the host frequency range and equal to at least one of the first frequency range or the second frequency range.

Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system including first and second terminal devices operable to communicate with one another in a synchronized device-to-device manner. Abstract: A communications device configured to transmit signals representing data to one or more in-coverage communications devices forming with the communications device a group, one of the in-coverage communications devices acting as an active relay node for the communications device, so that the in-coverage communications device can transmit signals representing the data to the infrastructure equipment of the mobile communications network, and to receive signals representing the data from the in-coverage communications device acting as the active relay node. The signals transmitted to the in-coverage communications device are received according to a device-to-device communications protocol, wherein the signals transmitted by the communications device or received by the communications device include an identifier which identifies the signals to the in-coverage communications device. One of the other in-coverage communications device can be selected by the infrastructure equipment to act as the active relay node.

Abstract: An infrastructure equipment as part of a mobile communications network receives an indication that data is to be transmitted to one of communications devices. In response the infrastructure equipment transmits a first paging message to the communications device to indicate the communications device is to receive the data via a wireless access interface. If a response to the transmitted first paging message is not received within a predetermined time, then if the infrastructure equipment can use a power boosting mode, to transmit the first paging message with a boosted power, or if the infrastructure equipment cannot use a power boosted mode for transmitting, to transmit a second paging message to one or more communications apparatus which can operate as a relay node for the communications device. The second paging message identifies the relay node and the communications device for which the infrastructure equipment is to transmit the data.
