摘要： An image retention phenomenon and black unevenness generated after long-time operation in the liquid crystal device are prevented. By using a material having a polyamide acid ester as a precursor less likely to adsorb impurities on a boundary for an alignment film and a material having a dielectric constant anisotropy Δ∈ of 5 or less for liquid crystals, adsorption of an antioxidant dispersed in the liquid crystals is suppressed to prevent oxidation of the liquid crystals. The extent that impurities are intruded into the liquid crystals is reduced by restricting the dielectric constant anisotropy Δ∈ of the liquid crystals to 5 or less, thereby capable of preventing the image retention phenomenon and the black unevenness.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a pixel electrode and a counter electrode, an insulation film, and a first orientation film formed over the pixel electrode and the counter electrode on the first substrate, the first orientation film being responsive to a radiated polarized light to obtain an initial orientation direction. A second substrate is opposed to the first substrate, a second orientation film is formed over the second substrate, and a liquid crystal is sealed between the first and second substrates. The first and second orientation films are made of polyimide, the liquid crystal has negative dielectric anisotropy, and the liquid crystal display device is normally in a black mode. An angle formed between the electric field and the initial orientation direction of the first orientation film is in a range of greater than 0° to 45°.

摘要： A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a white color light source and a coloring light source, a detection circuit which detects a brightness of an input image signal, an image quality processing calculation circuit, a light source control circuit, and an image control circuit. The coloring light source includes a blue light source. The image quality processing calculation circuit outputs to the light source control circuit a light source control signal for (1) increasing a light intensity of the coloring light source when an average luminance of the input image signal is detected to be higher than a predetermined luminance based on a detection result of the detection circuit, and for (2) turning-on only the white color light source without turning-on the coloring light source when the average luminance of the input image signal is detected to be lower than the predetermined luminance.

摘要： Manufacture of a liquid crystal display is disclosed. The liquid crystal display includes a backlight unit, a backlight unit-side polarizing plate, and a liquid crystal cell held by two glass plates, the liquid crystal cell having an electrode, a liquid crystal layer, an alignment layer, and a color filter arranged between the glass plates. The liquid crystal display also includes a transparent front plate arranged at a side of the liquid crystal cell opposite to the backlight unit, a polarizing plate attached to the liquid crystal cell, and a transparent organic medium layer arranged between the front plate and the liquid crystal cell. Since the front plate is provided at the outermost surface of an image display portion, and the transparent organic medium is filled between the front plate and the liquid crystal module, it is possible to achieve an improvement in wear resistance and a reduction in reflectance.
