摘要: Methods and apparatus for allocating tones for communications purposes in adjoining cells of an OFDM system are described. Tones used in each cell are allocated to tone hopping sequences according to a tone to tone hopping sequence allocation function. Different cells use different tone to tone hopping sequence allocation functions to minimize the number of collisions between hopping sequences of neighboring cells. Tone hopping sequence to communications channel allocation functions are used to allocate tone hopping sequences to communications channels. Communications channels are used by wireless terminals, e.g., mobile nodes, to transmit data. Over time, a wireless terminal uses the tones included in the tone hopping sequences corresponding to communications channels it is authorized to use. Accordingly, tones are assigned to communications devices by a multi-function, e.g., two level, mapping operation.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for performing amplitude and phase imbalance correction operations on in-phase and quadrature phase signal components corresponding to a received signal are described. The imbalance correction operations relay on the use of relatively simple to implement feedback loops. The phase imbalance feedback loop relies on the tendency of transmitted symbols to be distributed uniformly around the origin of the I/Q plane if proper phase balance is present in the processed signal. Phase correction coefficients are generated over time as a function of the negated product of the processed in-phase and quadrature phase signal components. Amplitude correction coefficients are generated over time as a function of the difference in the squared values of the I and Q processed signal components.

摘要: A method and apparatus for processing convolution coded data. The method and apparatus have lower computational requirements, while still reducing or eliminating errors caused by noise or distortion. A path metric value associated with each decoder state is updated upon the receipt of each incoming signal value. The path metric value is formed by: (1) identifying those permissible transition(s) to that decoder state that are represented by symbols having the minimum branch metric compared to the received signal value; (2) identifying those permissible transition(s) to that decoder state that originate from states with the minimum previously-computed path metric value; and (3) comparing the transitions identified in the first and second steps. From this comparison, the identity of the transition with the lowest path metric value is derived. Thereafter, the path metric chosen is stored for that given state.

摘要: Methods and a gateway apparatus for facilitating communication between communications devices which support different communications protocols are described. The gateway device may receive an identifier of interest from a first device which supports a first communications protocol but not a second communications protocol. The gateway monitors signals corresponding to the second communications protocol to detect signals corresponding to the identifier of interest. An externally perceivable alert is generated by the gateway device when a signal corresponding to the identifier of interest is detected. Communications is established between the first communications device and a second communications device with the gateway device performing protocol conversion to the extent required. The first device may power down its interface after sending the identifier of interest to the gateway and then power up the interface in response to sensing of the alert or input from a user responding to the alert.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for implementing an electronic trading system which supports risk checking as part of standard message order processing is described. In accordance with the invention risk checking is moved into the exchange system, e.g., electronic communications network, responsible for servicing transaction/order messages and implementing trades. Thus, at least some level of risk checking is performed on transactions even if a broker allows a trader to submit orders directly to the ECN without first passing through a broker order/risk checking system. Brokers, clients and/or individual traders provide parameters used to perform various checks which are performed within the exchange on submitted orders. Various checks are broker level checks which test that orders placed by individual clients do not exceed constraints which are based on the aggregate of the holdings of the individual clients of a broker. Additional client level and trader specified risk checking may also be performed.

摘要: Various embodiments are directed to gap fill methods and apparatus. In an exchange system a device in the exchange may request a message gap fill when it detects that it may be missing one or more messages. The gap fill message may include a range of message identifiers or message counter values identifying the messages which are being requested by the multicast gap fill message. A message logging system included in the exchange may include a plurality of message logging devices. A multicast gap fill message may specify a set of messages to be provided which is very large. Multiple devices may respond to the requesting device with the responding device providing one, multiple or all the messages. Replies to multicast gap fill request messages are sent in the form of unicast messages from directed to the device which sent the multicast gap fill request message.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for improved utilization of air link resources are discussed in wireless communications systems employing multi-sector base stations and wireless terminals with multiple antennas. Timing synchronization is maintained across the base station sectors, and the same set of tones are used in adjacent sectors. In a sector boundary region, which is typically a high interference region, a wireless terminal is set to a sector pair state and operated in a MIMO mode of operation, communicating with two adjacent base station antenna faces of the same base station concurrently, the two different adjacent base station antenna faces corresponding to different adjacent sectors. Thus, typically high interference sector boundary regions, are converted into high capacity regions by having the sectors coordinated and utilizing MIMO techniques.

摘要: A method and apparatus for determining the correct decision regions in a PCM communication receiver utilizing a public Digital Telephone Network (DTN). A receiver receives samples from an analog loop of the DTN and quantizes the samples according to a reference lattice. The reference lattice defines a set of decision levels representing the quantization level for each PCM codeword. The receiver sets the reference lattice by scaling the lattice to account for the characteristics of the communication channel, which typically includes distortions of the digital data resulting in nonlinear behavior of the channel. The scaling and re-scaling thus accounts for PCM codeword translations or other channel distortion.
