The foldable substrate comprises a first wall that has a first outer surface. The first wall comprises a first natural fiber-resin impregnated blank section that is overmolded with a first quantity of polymeric resin that forms at least a portion of the first outer surface. A second wall has a second outer surface. The second wall comprises a second natural fiber-resin impregnated blank section that forms at least a portion of the second outer surface. The first and second walls are hingedly connected together.

摘要: Aspects of this invention include a downhole tool and method for making a physical caliper measurement of a subterranean borehole. The tool is configured to make the physical borehole caliper measurement only when the measured pressure in each of three or more outwardly extendable blades is greater than a predetermined threshold pressure. Blade positions are measured and the borehole caliper calculated only when the pressure in each of the blades exceeds the threshold. Exemplary embodiments of the invention enable physical caliper measurements to be made with increased accuracy with each of the blades making firm contact with the borehole wall. Methods in accordance with the invention are especially well suited for use in directional drilling applications in that they tend to enable accurate caliper measurements to be made without repositioning the steering tool in the borehole.

摘要: A landscape edging member for use in defining borders of walks, patios, driveways and the like, is provided with edge lips on one side of a base wall, which serve as stops when one of the landscape edging members is inverted and nested with another landscape edging member, to prevent lateral shifting of the nested landscape edging members when they are placed in a stack or bundle. The lips of the nested landscape edging members overlap portions of the vertical walls of the other one of the two nested landscape edging members, which form an inverted pair of landscape edging members. The lips are high enough from the base wall to prevent lateral shifting of the nested pair when a stack of the landscape edging members are shipped.

摘要: A metallization on a semiconductor substrate is disclosed in the form of a laminate comprising a plurality of layers of a “conducting” metallization for providing electrical conductivity, interspersed with a plurality of layers of another metallization. By providing many layers the thickness of each individual layer can be reduced. Reduction in thickness of each layer leads to a reduction in grain size and a consequent reduction in creep over the lifetime of a device.

摘要: Aspects of this invention include a steering tool having a controller configured to provide closed-loop control of hydraulic fluid pressure. In one exemplary embodiment, closed-loop control of a system (reservoir) pressure may be provided. In another embodiment, closed-loop control of a blade pressure may be provided while the blade remains substantially locked at a predetermined position. Other exemplary embodiments may incorporate rule-based-intelligence such that pressure control thresholds may be determined based on various measured and/or predetermined downhole parameters. The invention tends to reduce the friction (drag) between the blades and the borehole wall and thereby also tends to improve drilling rates. Moreover, the invention also tends to improve the service life and reliability of downhole steering tools.

摘要: A method for determining a rate of change of longitudinal direction of a subterranean borehole includes positioning a downhole tool in a borehole, the tool including first and second longitudinally spaced surveying devices disposed thereon. The method further includes causing the surveying devices to measure longitudinal directions of the borehole at first and second longitudinal positions and processing the longitudinal directions of the borehole to determine the rate of change of longitudinal direction of the borehole between the first and second positions. The method may further include processing the measured rate of change of longitudinal direction of the borehole and a predetermined rate of change of longitudinal direction to control the direction of drilling of the subterranean borehole. Exemplary embodiments of this invention tend to minimize the need for communication between a drilling operator and the bottom hole assembly, thereby advantageously preserving downhole communication bandwidth.
