    摘要: Disclosed is a female contact of unitary construction employing a torsion bar joined at one end to one of two opposing, spaced apart, elongated contact blades. The two blades have a relatively high spring rate and are forced apart when a male contact is inserted between the blades to provide the desired contact retention forces. One of the two contact blades is oriented edgewise with respect to the plane of a rigid opposing blade to provide a high spring rate in the direction of outward displacement. The outward displacement of the edgewise-oriented blade and hence the contact pressures applied thereby to the male contact are primarily a function of the torsional characteristics of the torsion bar to which it is joined. If desired, this contact pressure may be essentially doubled by providing two juxtaposed edgewise-oriented contact blades, each joined to a respective torsion bar.

    摘要: An interlock arrangement is disclosed for a unitary molded enclosure for electrical terminals such as for the terminals for a dead-front electrical plug. The enclosure is formed of electrically insulating material and has an interior chamber for housing the terminals and additionally has at least one moveable wall portion connected to the remainder of the enclosure by an integral web hinge. The moveable wall portion pivots on the hinge to an open position which provides access to the interior chamber of the enclosure. A number of interengaging locking members are integrally formed with the moveable wall and the remainder of the enclosure and engage one another when the moveable wall portion is closed to relieve stress on the hinge when assembling and using the enclosure and to provide safety even if the web hinge is weakened or fails. The unitary molded enclosure may have two such moveable walls, each with its own web hinge and interengaging locking members.

    摘要: An integrally molded housing has a dead-front base and a pair of side covers pivotally connected to it by web hinges. The side covers fold about the web hinges to: (i) force cord conductors into insulation displacement terminals affixed to the housing and thus wire the connector; (ii) safely enclose the wiring area; and (iii) lock the side covers to the dead-front base by the engagement of mating portions of the covers and base to prevent relative motion even should the web hinges fail. The connector can have male or female contacts or both. It provides speed and convenience of wiring and assembly and ensures quality wiring by eliminating the variability in workmanship associated with conventional stripping of conductor ends and screw tightening used for screw type terminals.

    摘要: A one-piece dead-front electrical plug comprises a dead-front member, conductive blades mounted therethrough, and two side covers hingedly connected to the dead-front member by integral web hinges. The side covers pivot between an open position affording access for making wiring connections between a cord and the conductive blades, and a closed position fully enclosing the wiring area. Each side cover has cord clamp teeth which cooperate to grip the cord. The web hinges are protected from longitudinal stress in one embodiment by side cover flanges which are matingly received in notch openings in the dead front member, and in another embodiment by dowel pins protruding from the dead-front member which are matingly received in openings in the side covers. Lateral stress protection of the web hinges is provided by an interengaging flange and groove structure of the side covers and dead-front member. A sealing compound barrier sleeve fits around the wiring connections and tightly against the dead-front member, and is filled with sealing compound to moisture-proof the wiring connections.

    摘要: An improved two-part electrical connector of the interlocking type. A generally cylindrical plug unit having a plurality of male electrical contacts extending from a front face thereof is provided. A generally cylindrical socket unit is adapted for mating with a plug unit. The socket unit has a front face with slots therein and a plurality of female electrical contacts beneath the slots to receive the male electrical contacts when the units are mated. The socket unit includes means for locking the plug and socket units against axial disengagement when the mated units are twisted with respect to one another. A generally cylindrical plug shroud element is mounted coaxially on the plug unit and a generally cylindrical socket shroud element is mounted coaxially on the socket unit and conforms circumferentially with the plug shroud element. Finally, manually actuable means are mounted in one of the shroud elements and movable to engage the other of the shroud elements to prevent relative rotation as between the plug and socket units on their common axis. In this manner, the plug and socket units are safely locked and cannot be accidentally disengaged. In the preferred embodiment of the invention the plug shroud element extends to at least the end of the male electrical contacts and serves to protect these contacts against damage. In this embodiment, the manually actuable means comprises a key mounted in a keyway in one of the shroud elements, and a keyway is also provided in the other of the shroud elements. The key is slidable to engage both keyways simultaneously to effect the desired locking.

    摘要: A trolley pole is supported on a vertical shaft so as to be rotatable from side to side while in its elevated, operating position. The shaft is supported on a support structure which is tiltably mounted on a base plate on a vehicle. The base plate can be tilted by extending the arm of a linear actuator. When the base plate is tilted, the pole is lowered and centered and a gravity operated latch structure comes into effect to maintain the pole centered whenever it is not in its operating position. A control circuit coupled to the actuator extends and retracts the actuator arm to pivot the support structure between an upright and a stowed position.

    摘要: An arrester support and disconnector structure enclosed, in one embodiment, a cylindrical housing having a lower wall with a weakened zone. Electrically conductive members extend through the upper and lower walls of the housing and make electrical connection with the arrester and a ground wire, respectively. Between the conductive members is an explosive charge which is detonated by the passage of excess current, thereby removing the lower member. The cylindrical body has an exterior recess to receive a supporting strap. In another embodiment, the support structure includes an elongated nonconductive body mounted at one end to a conventional support bracket. At the other end an upper surface supports an arrester and a housing below that surface contains the disconnector, again containing upper and lower conductive members with an explosive charge therebetween. The housing surrounding the conductive members has a weakened zone which is separated when the charge is detonated by excessive current. After detonation of the explosive charge which removes the arrester ground lead in each embodiment, the arrester will still be mechanically supported by the remaining intact section of nonconductive bracket, the contour of which provides sufficient insulating strength between the energized base of the failed arrester and the grounded bracket to allow the arrester to remain energized without causing a system outage.
