摘要: A device (1, 30, 40, 50, 60) for denuding a vein comprises a vein denuding head (3) operatively attached to an elongated catheter member (2) and configured for transluminal delivery and deployment in the vein. The vein denuding head comprises a helical coil (4) that is self-adjustable from an uncoiled delivery configuration suitable for transluminal delivery within the catheter member and a coiled deployed configuration having a diameter greater than the vein to be denuded that circumferentially engages an internal lumen of the vein when deployed. The helical coil has an abrasive surface configured to circumferentially denude the internal lumen of the vein when the coil is moved axially along the body lumen in the coiled configuration. The helical coil may be a single helical coil element.

摘要: An implant (30) for a mammalian bone joint (3) for spacing a first bone (2) of the joint from a second bone (1) of the joint while allowing translational movement of the second bone in relation to the first bone is described. The implant comprises (a) a distal part (31) configured for intramedullary engagement with an end of the second bone, (b) a proximal part (34) having a platform (15) configured for non-engaging abutment of an end of the first bone and translational movement thereon, and (c) an articulating coupling (10, 16) provided between the distal and proximal ends allowing controlled articulation of the first and second bones. The bone-abutting platform is shaped to conform to and translate upon the end of the first bone. A kit for assembly to form the implant of the invention, and the use of the implant to treat osteoarthritis in a bone joint, are also described.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for cutting a substrate are disclosed. In one arrangement, a plurality of recesses are formed in the surface of the substrate. The recesses as such that a stress can be applied to the substrate that is concentrated by the recesses. The concentrated stress causes the substrate to be cut along a cutting line that passes through the recesses. The cutting occurs via propagation of a crack through the recesses.

摘要: A device suitable for use in a body lumen and comprises an elongated control member having a distal and a proximal end, and a radially expansible member disposed at or near the distal end and adapted for collection and/or shearing of matter (i.e. thrombus) from a wall of the body lumen (i.e. a vein or an artery). The radially expansible member has a proximal end and a distal end and is adjustable between a contracted orientation and an expanded orientation. The elongated control member comprising a proximal arm connected at or adjacent to the proximal end of the radially expansible member and a distal arm connected at or adjacent to the distal end of the radially expansible member such that movement of one arm relative to the other arm effects adjustment of the diameter or radial strength of the radially expansible member. The device comprises a control mechanism operatively connected to both arms and adapted to provide resistance to the movement of one arm relative to the other. The control mechanism may be a biasing means, a brake means, or both.

摘要: An OCT imaging system (100) comprising a radiation emitter (SLD), a radiation receiver CCD), an interferometer (FC, PC, X-Scan, Y-Scan), a controller (COMP) which controls the emitter and processes received radiation data according to OCT to provide an output image. The controller (COMP) forms a spectrum of spatial frequencies along the depth direction. It calculates from the spectrum local spectra of spatial frequencies or periods along the depth direction for individual volume elements along the depth direction. It translates the local spectra of spatial frequencies or periods along the depth direction into the OCT image domain. It maps the local spectra into the volume elements to provide sensitivity on the nano-scale whereas the volume elements are in the micro-scale. The controller calculates information parameters from the translated and mapped local spectra. Thus the system (100) achieves nano-scale sensitivity although the volume elements are at the micro-scale.
