Abstract: The present invention relates to pool filters. An underdrain design is disclosed that primarily relies on a peripheral ring rather than lateral projections to transfer the water to the sand. The ends of the ring are not joined so that the ring is not closed. The ring is also bent into a helical shape which allows the ring to be screwed into an opening with a smaller diameter than that of the ring. The ring is radially slotted so that water flows radially from it in all directions both toward the center of the tank and away from the center, as well as straight up and down. Since the water transfer takes place primarily along an arc located relatively near the mid-point between the center and the perimeter of the tank, the disadvantages inherent in the concentration of the water flow at the center of the tank are eliminated.

Abstract: A method for locally heating objects, in particular thin sheet metal, by charging the objects by means of a plasma ignited between two electrodes. Abstract: A mounting adaptor for multiport multiposition valves adapted to be removably attached to an opening in a filter tank is provided. The adaptor has a peripheral flange which sealably engages a corresponding flange on the filter tank and is secured in place by a v-band coupling. Two fluid connecting ports for attachment to the multiport valve are provided to supply fluid to and discharge fluid from the filter depending on the valve position. The mounting adaptor also includes a fluid diffuser adapted to be disposed within the filter tank to uniformly distribute the influent fluid across the filter.

A tank 1 for a filter element comprises a single influent line 10 and a single outlet line 11; and a valve 15 which, as shown, connects line 10 to line 29, and connects line 28 to line 11 respectively for backwashing, but which in a second position (Fig. 2, not shown) connects line 10 to line 28 and line 29 to line 11 for normal forward filtration flow. As described, a bag (41, Fig. 1, not shown) is connected downstream of line 11 for filtering the backwash before returning it to a swimming pool; it may be bypassed during normal forward filtration. The filter element comprises beds of granular material 16-19 of increasing coarseness. The liquids are distributed and collected by perforated "cartwheel" members 30, 33. In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the filter elements are hollow mesh disc members (61) covered with diatomaceous earth (64) and mounted on a fixed hollow shaft (59). Valve member 20 pivots about axis 22 and is surrounded by an O-ring 23 which sealingly engages in grooves 24 in the valve casing.

Abstract: A drainless reverse osmosis (RO) water purification system provides relatively pure water for on-demand dispensing, while recycling brine to a domestic hot water system. The drainless purification system includes a pre-filter catalyst cartridge for removing chlorine-based contaminants from a tap water supply upstream from an RO membrane. The catalyst is regularly refreshed by a high through-flow of water to a conventional cold water dispense faucet, thereby significantly prolonging the service life of the RO membrane. The RO membrane is incorporated into a multi-cartridge unit adapted for facilitated slide-out removal and replacement as needed. A control valve recycles brine from the RO membrane to the hot water system during pure water production, and recirculates tap water through the RO membrane when a pure water reservoir is substantially filled. The multi-cartridge unit may further include an air filtration system for providing a flow of filtered air.
