摘要: A saturated layer stormwater filtering system with down-flow layered multimedia filters is disclosed. The filtering system may include an upflow pretreatment chamber and a subsequent filtration chamber. It also includes a snorkel pipe as an adjustable head control or internal baffles. The system incorporates gravity powered partially saturated stormwater media filters to harness the potential energy of stormwater from downspouts and pumped flows from stormwater catchments to drive the polluted stormwater in a hydraulically controlled fashion by gravity through a series of filter media layers.

摘要: In one embodiment, a reactive filtration method includes continuously regenerating a reactive filter media while simultaneously filtering contaminants from fluid flowing through the filter media. In one embodiment, regenerating the reactive filter media comprises mixing metal granules with the filter media and agitating the mixture. In another embodiment, regenerating the reactive filter media comprises introducing a metal in the fluid flowing through the filter media and agitating the filter media. In one embodiment, a method for removing phosphorus, arsenic or a heavy metal from water includes introducing a metal salt reagent into the water at a molar ratio of 5:1 to 200:1 to the phosphorous or the arsenic in the water and passing the water through a bed of moving sand.

摘要: The present invention refers to an apparatus (11) and a method for milk filtration and filter regeneration. The apparatus comprises a filter vessel (13); a loose filter material (37) housed within the vessel for filtering out contaminants in the milk; and a grid (31) arranged in front of the milk flow outlet to prevent the loose filter material from leaving the vessel. The vessel includes inner walls (15, 17); a milk inlet (21); a milk outlet (23); a cleaning fluid inlet (23) arranged substantially vertically at the lowermost portion of the vessel, through which a cleaning fluid jet can be injected, and a cleaning fluid outlet (21) arranged at the upper portion of the vessel. The lower portions (17) of the inner walls of the vessel form an angle (null) with respect to the horizontal plane, the angle being larger than the angle of repose for the filter material in the cleaning fluid. Thus, the filter material, which is flowed vertically upwards (45) by the cleaning fluid jet, moves substantially radially outwards (45) with respect to the jet to descend downwards (47) and slide back (47) towards the jet by aid of the angled inner wall portions.

摘要: A method for removal of solids in a water treatment system having multiple filters, each filter comprising an air backwash system and a water backwash system, comprising a series of steps to enable two filters to be in some stage of the backwash process at the same time thereby reducing the time the filter is out of service. The continuous cycling of the backwash method is characterized by a continuous cycle of backwashing that backwashes two filters simultaneously. The backwashing method requires three steps, an air-only backwash, an air/water bashwash and a water-only or rinse backwash. In this method, as one filter is at the water-only backwash stage, the backwash cycle of a second filter is started so that the second filter is air/water backwashed while the first filter is at the water-only backwashed stage. Depending on the valve actuator used to open and close the backwash air and water valves, each filter in a series of filters is out of the filtration process for only about 2 to 15 minutes, thereby minimizing downtime and disruption of the filtration process necessary to restore the capacity of the filters caused by buildup of solids. This enables the filters to operate at a high level of solid/hydraulic loading such as caused by storm water surges.

摘要: Apparatus is provided for coalescing microscopic droplets of organic (principally hydrocarbons) that are present with particles in an aqueous stream (primarily water), which avoids frequent shutdowns for backwashing. The system includes two anthracite beds (56, 58, FIG. 2) and apparatus for connecting the beds in series. Most of the time, the stream flows down (60) through the first bed and up (64) through the second bed, and to a separator, while particles (74) accumulate at the top of the first bed. When the particles begin to seriously block flow through the first bed, the flow is reversed for a period while the particles are transferred from the top of the first bed to the top of the second bed. After several minutes, the flow is reversed again, causing particles at the top of the second bed to flow to the separator for removal.

摘要: Colloidal matter is removed from a fluid flow by first adsorbing a coagulant onto the surface of a finely divided filter media, and thereafter passing a colloid-containing fluid through the filter media. The adsorbing of coagulant is accomplished with the filter off-line, and it is returned on-line for filtering of the fluid. After the coagulant is adsorbed onto the filter media, it is not necessary to continue feeding coagulant during on-line operation, as the adsorbed coagulant captures the colloidal matter in the fluid and retains it on the surface of the filter media. The captured colloidal matter is removed during back washing of the filter media.

摘要: Two basic methods for rapidly fluidizing a plug and two vertical flow filters for carrying out the methods are disclosed. One method comprises injecting a horizontal high pressure plug-breaking-up fluid jet at the bottom portion of the plug for breaking up that portion, injecting another horizontal plug-breaking-up jet at the plug at a predetermined distance above the previous fluid jet for breaking up the next lower portion of the plug, and continuing injecting successive horizontal plug-breaking-up jets, each jet being spaced above the last jet until all of the plug is broken up for rapidly fluidizing the filter media plug. The other method starts fluidizing at the top of the plug and works down. Another method comprises injecting a plurality of horizontal high pressure plug-breaking-up fluid jets simultaneously at the bottom portion of an elongated horizontal plug in a horizontal flow filter for breaking up that portion, injecting another plurality of horizontal plug-breaking-up fluid jets simultaneously at the horizontal plug at a predetermined distance above the previous fluid jets for breaking up the next lower portion of the plug, and continuing injecting successive groups of horizontal plug-breaking-up jets, each group of jets being spaced above the last group until all of the elongated horizontal plug is broken up for rapidly fluidizing the elongated horizontal filter media plug.

The process comprises filtering the solution through a bed of particulate material until the build-up of undissolved material impedes the further flow of solution through the bed, mixing the undissolved material and particulate bed with a solvent to partially dissolve the undissolved material, which is highly concentrated relative to its original concentration before filtration, adding a solubilizing reactant to said concentrated partial solution of undissolved material to complete the solution of the cellulosic residues, and separating and recycling the resulting solution.
