Abstract: A shaft coupling has an input element adapted to be rotationally driven about an axis, an output element rotatable about the axis adjacent and limitedly relative to the input element, and an intermediate element rotatable about the axis adjacent and limitedly relative to both the input element and the output element. A first coupling assembly with progressive resistance to torque is fixed between one of the input and output elements and the intermediate element. A second coupling assembly with linear resistance to torque is fixed between the other of the input and output elements and the intermediate element such that torque is transmitted between the input and output elements through the coupling elements in series with each other in a single stage.

Abstract: A telescopic shaft for vehicle steering has first and second torque transferring members. The first torque transferring member is interposed, with an elastic body in between, between axial grooves formed in an outer peripheral surface of a male shaft and an inner peripheral surface of a female shaft. The second torque transferring member is interposed between other axial grooves formed in the outer peripheral surface of the male shaft and in the inner peripheral surface of the female shaft. The elastic body has transferring-member-side contact portions contacting the first torque transferring member, shaft-side contact portions contacting groove surfaces of the axial groove of the male shaft or the female shaft, and a biasing portion for elastically urging the transferring-member-side contact portions and the shaft-side contact portions away from each other. Rigidity of the transferring-member-side contact portions is different from that of the shaft-side contact portions.

Abstract: A rotatable driving connection in which a plurality of abutments on one rotating part engage corresponding generally radial slots on the other rotating part with resilient material between each abutment and the contacting surfaces of its respective slot. The abutments are arranged in pairs of groups, the resultant of the forces of one group being perpendicular to the resultant of the other group. A leaf spring may be associated with each abutment to maintain contact between the resilient material and the walls of the slot and to prevent backlash. The area of contact between the resilient material and the walls of the slot varies in relation to the force transmitted by the connection.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide improved overrunning pulleys that overcome one or more of the deficiencies in the prior art as discussed herein. Embodiments of the present invention provide pulleys that are “springy” in the torque direction, yet have a lower effective spring constant (e.g., are less stiff) over a greater angular range. Further, in at least some embodiments, the inventive pulleys use a low cost and simple torque transfer geometry. Further, in at least some embodiments, the inventive pulleys afford significant overrun. Further, in at least some embodiments, the inventive pulleys are radially small in an overall envelope, for example, in order to allow an alternator to reach its highest possible rotational speed, and thus output, during engine idle. Further, in at least some embodiments, the inventive pulleys are more durable, as they offer the aforementioned dynamics in both directions (torque and counter-torque).
