    摘要: A balanced building ventilation system that employs a fireplace as an element of the ventilation system. The fireplace includes a firebox, and an exhaust gas flue is connected to the firebox for exhausting gas from the firebox to the outdoor ambient. A ventilation channel conveys outdoor ambient air into the building interior. A motor-driven draft inducer is connected to the exhaust gas flue for forcing exhaust gas flow out to the outdoor ambient. A motor-driven blower is provided for forcing ventilation airflow through the channel to replace building interior air lost to exhaust gas flow.

    摘要: The need to maintain the quality of air in a home has become more of a problem in new high efficiency tight houses so that governmental regulations are being proposed for a minimum change of fresh air. If too much cold outside fresh air is introduced into such homes at a single source, the room with the fresh air is usually too cold and/or unbalanced. The present invention avoids cooling any one room while maintaining heat efficiency. When the home has a gas fireplace, the exhaust gases are preferably directed through an air-to-air cross flow heat exchanger which preheats the quality air passing into a forced air furnace system. In modified embodiments of the present invention, make-up quality air is mixed with the room air and heated in the heat exchanger of the fireplace. The preheated room air from the fireplace is preferably connected to the supply/return of a forced air furnace system and distributed to all rooms to provide uniform heating.

    摘要: A heat exchange system and method for heating outside air provided to a structure are disclosed. The system uses and recovers heat from waste products that are being exhausted from the structure. A heated products source generates heated waste products as a result of combustion. An exhaust duct passes the heated waste products through a heat exchanger before exhaustion from the structure. An intake duct that supplies fresh outside air to the structure also passes through the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger couples the exhaust duct and the intake duct and transfers otherwise unused heat from the waste products to the outside air to increase the overall efficiency of the heated product source.

    摘要: This invention discloses a filter-and-fan assembly that can be installed into new fireplaces or retrofitted into existing fireplaces, for filtering dust and smoke out of the hot exhaust gases that are created when wood is burned in fireplaces. This filter assembly is provided with a mechanism that can move the filter out of the flue channel (i.e., the chimney or other exhaust outlet) if the filter becomes clogged by creosote and/or smoke particles. If desired, the mechanism that moves the filter out of the flue path can be automated under the control of a device such as an electronic smoke detector mounted in front of the fireplace, above the fireplace opening. Alternately, a thin filter-paper type of filtering element can be continuously scrolled through the flue channel. A rotating fan blade can be provided directly above the filter element, to ensure that exhaust gases are actively drawn up through the filter. These means for avoiding blockage or hindrance of the flue channel can overcome a major obstacle that, until now, has completely blocked the development and adoption of smoke filters for conventional open-hearth fireplaces. This invention also discloses a convenient and clean method of opening and closing a fireplace damper without having to reach into a sooty fireplace, by inserting a solid damper plate (rather than a filter element) into a filter support bracket in a flue channel.

When the safety control system senses that a predetermined condition (e.g., high temperature) exists in the chimney firebox while the damper is closed, it automatically opens the damper and activates the fan. The system may also be used in conjunction with one or more smoke detectors, in which case the system automatically opens the damper and activates the fan when a smoke detector is activated.

    摘要: The space heating system has a stove (1, 2) with a sealed combustion chamber (3); air is heated in the stove in a heat exchanger (12) therein, and heated air is conducted through hollow blocks (80) of chamotte arranged, for example, as heating panels, heated walls, benches, floors or the like. The hollow blocks are formed, internally, with projections or obstructions (83) to increase heat transfer, and may be faced at the outside with decorative tiles. To seal the combustion chamber, a vertically movable panel, typically of fire-resistant glass, is slidably located in front of a fuel inlet opening (7). In operation, the panel is sealed, so that the combustion chamber (3) will receive air only under controlled conditions, in two air paths; a primary air path supplies air to a narrow space (22) below a fuel support grate (25), after being preheated by passing around an ash receiver (18); and a secondary air flow, passed through ducts (30) within the combustion chamber, and ejecting air towards the panel. Typical fuels are wood or coal.

A control system is operable in at least a smoke mode and a temperature mode. When operated in the smoke mode, the control system operates a fuel delivery system and draft inducer in accordance with predetermined fuel and combustion air delivery schedules. When operated in the temperature mode, the control system operates the fuel delivery system based on a feedback signal derived from the temperature of the cooking region. A user interface operatively associated with the control system allows a user to operate the grilling appliance in either of the smoke mode or the temperature mode.
