摘要: An ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna array is provided. One embodiment of the present invention employs a multi-element antenna for UWB beam forming and also for time-of-arrival vector processing to resolve multi-path problems in an UWB communication system. Another embodiment of the present invention recovers the energy contained in the multi-path reflections to increase signal-to-noise ratios of received UWB pulses.

摘要: A method for improving a radio location system based on time-of-arrival. Time-of-arrival radio location systems are limited in ultimate accuracy by signal-to-noise ratio and by the time varying multipath environment in which they must operate. These systems time stamp some feature of an arriving signal, from a transmitter, in order to calculate a range or a hyperbolic line-of-position. Some feature of the received signal must be identified which can provide repeatable readings, in order for a time-of-arrival system to be reliable. The present invention teaches techniques which maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio while identifying a feature of the received signal which is least affected by multipath. The technique uses correlation peak/envelope information to estimate the leading edge of the correlation function, then enhances discrete samples at the leading edge of the correlation function to yield high signal-to-noise ratio readings. The present invention can reduce required transmitted bandwidth, increase system resolution and accuracy by twenty to one, and maintain high message traffic throughput.

摘要: An apparatus for determining an angle of incidence of a received signal utilizes two widely spaced interferometers with equal length crossing baselines. The time differential of a signal arrival between the two elements of each interferometer is established and the difference between the two time differentials is determined. Multiplying this difference by a predetermined constant provides the desired angle.

摘要: A direction finding system which will provide, upon receipt of one single ectromagnetic pulse, the direction of the emitter which produced that pulse with repsect to a fixed reference. This is done by measuring the time between the arrival of the pulse at two antennae.The basic time measurement may be made for example by charging a capacitor at a fast linear rate during the interim period between the arrival of the pulse front edges. The first pulse starts the charging of this capacitor and the second pulse stops it. The result is a fast rising ramp whose height is proportional to the time delay. To allow differentiation between signal arrival from the right and left side of the center line of the fixed reference, and assuming a base leg between antennas of 24 feet, a fixed delay at 25 nsec is added to channel B such that the B pulse always arrives after the pulse in channel A.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for determining a polarization state of an input RF signal. Two distinct RF antennas receive the input RF signal and output a first antenna signal and a second antenna signal. Polarizsations of the first and second antenna signals are orthogonal to one another. The first antenna signal is converted to a first optical signal, and the first optical signal is passed through a first optical signal to introduce a first delay. The delayed first optical signal is converted to a first RF signal. An amplitude ratio and a phase difference are determined between the first RF signal and a second RF signal that is associated with the second antenna and optionally includes a second delay. A polarization angle or polarization type of the input RF signal is determined based on the amplitude ratio and phase difference of the first and second RF signals.

摘要: Disclosed are various embodiments relating to a method and device for estimating the angle of a base station transmission beam by calculating the time difference between reception signals acquired through simultaneous beam sweeping to multiple antenna arrays. According to various embodiments, an electronic device may comprise: one or more first antennas; one or more second antennas spaced predetermined distance apart from the one or more first antennas; and a communication circuit electrically connected to the one or more first antennas and the one or more second antennas, wherein the communication circuit acquires a designated signal output from a base station as a first reception signal through the one or more first antennas and a second reception signal through the one or more second antennas, the first reception signal and the second reception signal are transmitted as one base station transmission beam, the time difference between the first reception signal and the second reception signal is obtained, the angle of the one base station transmission beam is calculated at least on the basis of the predetermined distance and the time difference, and the phase of a signal to be input to the one or more first antennas or the one or more second antennas is adjusted on the basis of the angle. Various embodiments are possible.

摘要: Approaches are described for antenna configuration in an antenna array of limited array size and channel state information (CSI) collection and analysis, to improve accuracy of angle of arrival (AoA) estimations for localizing a client device's position. Signals can be received from groups of antennas and CSI data can be generated from the signals. The CSI data can be combined, where the combined CSI data represents CSI data measurements of multiple signals received from a plurality of antenna subsets, without requiring physical installation of additional antennas to the limited antenna array to make the CSI data measurements. The angle of arrival (AoA) of the signals is estimated based on the combined CSI, and the AoA estimation can be used to determine the client device's location, and for other location services, such as identifying a person's location, tracking and managing inventory of objects, commute prediction, and the like.

摘要: Certain embodiments are directed to techniques (e.g., a device, a method, a memory or non-transitory computer readable medium storing code or instructions executable by one or more processors) for passive beacon communication techniques. Transmitting devices (e.g., beacons) can transmit advertising messages using a first wireless protocol to provide timing for ranging messages for one of more ranging messages over a second protocol (e.g., UWB). One or more receiving devices can determine using signal strength if the devices are within a threshold range to perform communication techniques. Various ranging communications techniques can be used to determine a range between the receiving device and transmitting device. Other techniques can be used to passively calculate the angle of arrival for transmitter signals. The angle of arrival information can be used for precise position locating for the receiving device or to indicate interest in information provided by the one or more transmitting devices.
