A presensitized lithographic printing plate, which comprises a support having a hydrophilic surface. A non-silver light-sensitive layer capable of having formed therein a lipophilic image pattern and a direct positive light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer are provided on the support in that sequence. The non-silver light-sensitive layer is provided with an adjacent hydrophilic colloid layer in which a resin is dispersed in fine particle form. The resin is a copolymer comprising (A) a recurring unit derived from at least one monomer of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, and (B) a recurring unit derived from at least one monomer of an aralkyl acrylate and an aralkyl methacrylate.

On an aluminum support having a hydrophilic surface, one provides first a positive type non-silver photosensitive layer capable of forming an oleophilic image, and then superposes thereon an unfogged positive type internally sensitized silver halide photographic emulsion coating.

A layer of a chalcogenide glass resist material, on a substrate on which a microlithographic pattern is to be formed, has a deposit of silver halide on its outer surface. By actinic irradiation a latent silver image replicating the desired pattern is formed in the silver halide deposit. This image is developed to a metallic silver, which is used to photodope the resist material for subsequent etching to produce the microlithographic pattern on the substrate. Positive and negative patterns are possible from the same starting laminate. One form of a microlithographic pattern is a mask for producing electronic circuits.

The density of the polymer substrate is reduced by making it cellular or poriferous using expandable micro capsules made of thermoplastic shell and a nucleus of a liquified blowing agent.

A high fidelity phase filter is made from a composite structure composed of a negative photopolymer, preferably a photoresist, layer which is affixed to a photoemulsion substrate in an optically flat and non-opaque coupling relationship. The photopolymer layer has a developed relief image which is derived by exposure of the photopolymer layer through a previously recorded and developed optical density image in the photoemulsion. The density image, and consequently the resultant relief image derived therefrom, is related to the phase modulation desired for the filter. The structure may be used as a master from which filters of the transmissive and/or reflective types are made by conventional mechanical reproduction techniques. Alternatively, it may be used as an integral part of the filter per se by affixing a reflective coating to the surface of the photopolymer layer, in which case the filter is of the reflective type.

The invention relates to a process for producing a printing form, in which a covering layer (5) is applied to a first radiation-sensitive layer (4) arranged on a carrier (1), the applied covering layer (5) is structured in accordance with a pattern to be printed, in order to form an irradiation mask (5′), and the radiation-sensitive layer (4) is irradiated and developed. In this way, in the production of printing forms, an irradiation mask (5′) can be applied very precisely in accordance with a pattern to be printed later.
