    摘要: A flat-panel display device is disclosed which comprises m column electrodes, n row electrodes, a column electrode driver for driving the m column electrodes in response to pixel data, and a row electrode driver for driving the n row electrodes by a one-line-at-a-time scanning methode, the column electrode driver comprising a detector for checking whether or not the number of turned-on column electrodes among the m column electrodes is greater than a predetermined number and an on-time varying unit for shortening the on-time of the column electrodes in response to the output of the detector. The device has an effect of reducing power consumed by varying the on-time of the electrodes when more than the predetermined number of pixels are on.

    摘要: A large area visual display matrix of ultra-violet initiated individual small gas discharge elements. Each element remains in a discharge condition until the voltage applied to a common anode is turned off and for this reason the matrix requires no associated memory or storage property to remain on as long as information is to be displayed. The matrix generally comprises, in order, an electrically conductive cathode with a low work function material photo-emissive coated thereon which emits electrons when irradiated by U.V. light, an insulating medium with apertures therein, individual anodes with holes therein the holes being axially aligned with the apertures in the insulating medium, a voltage supply for each anode, the foregoing elements being sandwiched between a base and a U.V. permeable cover, and a suitable gas filling for the apertures. A source of U.V. light is directed at the portion of the visual display it is desired to illuminate.

    摘要: In a matrix type gas discharge display device comprising a number of discharge elements at the crossings of the rows and columns of the display matrix, a group of display anodes is disposed at each discharge element by using a corresponding number of insulated wires and by removing insulation of one wire at each discharge element, and such exposed portion is shifted to a successive one of the wires every one of the crossings in a column, so that when the field scanning is made in the column direction, each different anode wire in a group operates successively in cyclic order. The applied scanning voltage is so controlled as to make such successive operation of the anodes. By such a field scanning, each discharge element luminates for a duration which is an integral multiple due to such number, of the duration in the conventional type device provided with only one display anode for each discharge element. The brightness of the displayed picture is increased up to an extent by such integral multiple in a definite and stable manner, and thus noise in the displayed picture can be decreased.

    摘要: A driving circuit arrangement for a gas-discharge display device consisting of an array of discharge lamps applies to the array a discharge retaining voltage composed of a voltage less than is required to maintain a discharge and a voltage equal to the magnitude of a `half-pulse,` the use of two coincident half-pulses being sufficient in addition to the retaining voltage to strike a discharge. To extinguish a discharge in one or more of the lamps the voltage equal to a half-pulse is removed temporarily from one of the conductors associated with the lamp, thereby reducing the voltage across all the lamps connected to that conductor below the level required to retain a discharge, and a compensating voltage of magnitude equal to a half-pulse is temporarily applied to the other conductor of those lamps in which it is desired that the discharge not be extinguished.

    摘要: A PDP having a driving circuit that reduces the reset voltage of the PDP driving waveforms to make it possible to use low-voltage elements and to achieve high contrasts is disclosed. Since conventional PDP waveforms require very high reset voltages, it causes a problem of intense background light emissions, low contrasts, use of high-voltage components, and increased circuit costs. According to the driving waveforms of the present invention, relative voltage differences between the address electrode and the X electrode and between the X electrode and the Y electrode are considered to design waveforms of low reset voltages, thereby providing high contrasts and low-cost circuit.
