Abstract:
Image data communication equivalent to facsimile communication using a public network is realized on e-mail communication. When a communication apparatus for transmitting/receiving e-mail data by connecting to the Internet is to communicate e-mail data having facsimile-format image data attached, communication concerning functional information is performed in addition to the communication of the e-mail data. The functional information can be exchanged by an optimum method matching the form of connection to the Internet. This allows maximum utilization of the capability of each apparatus function in facsimile image communication using e-mail.
Abstract:
A mail terminal senses insertion of a document into the terminal, scans the document in response to the sensed document insertion, and transmits the scanned document electronically over a telephone network. A host server receives the document over the telephone network, determines the name of the addressee from the received document, looks up document delivery instructions stored in a memory in association with the name of the addressee, and delivers the document to the addressee according to the delivery instructions. The mail terminal also prints documents that it receives from the host server.
Abstract:
An information processing system including an information processing apparatus that selects between transferring data and obtaining data, and controls transferring data or obtaining data based on the selection. The system also includes a server that stores data transferred from the information processing apparatus, and controls transferring data to the information processing apparatus based on a request for transferring data received from the information processing apparatus.
Abstract:
A multifunction peripheral 1 of the present invention includes an image data storage section 16 for storing image data received by a first communication section 14 or a modem 15, the first communication section 14 for transmitting reception information including sender's information of the image data to an information processor 2, and a sections control section for causing, according to control information transmitted from the information processor 2, a predetermined process to be executed on the image data stored in the image data storage section 16.
Abstract:
When a new MFP is connected in a state where a plurality of MFPs are connected to a network, each of a plurality of MFPs obtains an IP address of MPF from the new MFP, and if user data including the obtained IP address is stored, then transmits to the new MFP the registered user information associated with the obtained IP address by the user data. On the other hand, if user data including the obtained IP address is not stored in HDD, the new MFP is requested to transmit registered user information. Upon reception of the registered user information, the new MFP displays a confirmation window to ask the user for permission to write that registered user information into HDD. Upon reception of the request, the new MFP transmits registered user information. This facilitates the setting for newly connecting an apparatus to the network.
Abstract:
A method for a computer system for transmitting a facsimile to an electronic destination, includes receiving the facsimile comprising an instruction page with an optical representation of the electronic destination address and an optical representation of a user selection of an option, and a document encoded in a fax format, determining the electronic destination address from the optical representation of the electronic destination address, wherein the electronic destination address need not be known to the computer system before receiving the facsimile, determining the one selected option in response to the optical representation of the user selection of the option, determining a modified document in response to the document and in response to the one selected option, encoding the modified document into a second transmission format, and transmitting the modified document and additional service provider data encoded in the second transmission format to the electronic destination address.
Abstract:
An information providing server has information on plural printers. The information providing server provides a user of a portable terminal with the information on the plural printers by sending the information on the plural printers to the portable terminal. The portable terminal sends an e-mail to which a file to be printed is attached to a printer selected by the user. Each of the plural printers has a plurality of print conditions to which different e-mail addresses are respectively assigned. The printer that has received an e-mail specifies a print condition from an e-mail address indicating the destination of the e-mail. The printer then prints the file attached to the received e-mail under the specified print condition.
Abstract:
An information processing system capable of maintaining the flexibility for constructing an information provision apparatus, and of reducing load on the information provision apparatus. An image processing apparatus requests screen information from an information provision apparatus via an external control apparatus, receives the screen information from the information provision apparatus in response to a request, and displays the screen information received. The external control apparatus receives the request from the image processing apparatus, transfers it to the information provision apparatus, receives the screen information transmitted from the information provision apparatus in response to the request transferred, changes a content of the screen information received, and transmits the screen information changed to the image processing apparatus. The information provision apparatus receives the request from the image processing apparatus via the external control apparatus, generates the screen information, and transmits the screen information generated to the external control apparatus.
Abstract:
A method for a computer system for transmitting a facsimile to an e-mail destination, comprises receiving a facsimile transmission comprising an instruction page and a document page, wherein the instruction page includes an optical representation of an e-mail address, using an optical character recognition process to determine the e-mail address from the optical representation of the e-mail address, wherein the e-mail address need not be known to the computer system before receiving the facsimile transmission, converting the facsimile transmission into an e-mail attachment, and sending an e-mail message including the additional service provider data and the e-mail attachment to the e-mail address, wherein the additional service provider data is selected from a group consisting of: a service provider identifier, a service sponsor identifier.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes: a receiving device receiving print data; a banner page generating function responsive to reception of the print data, for generating a banner page displaying information related to the print data and conditions at the time of forming the image of the page; an image generating function for generating image data based on the print data; an image forming unit, responsive to reception of the print data, for forming the generated banner page and an image generated based on the print data, on a medium; and a security setting storage device for storing security setting related to the banner page. The banner page setting function changes the information to be displayed on the banner page or the conditions at the time of image formation, in accordance with the setting stored in the security setting storage function (S504 to S508).
