Abstract:
An image reading apparatus controls a sheet feeding unit such that in a reading job in which a plurality of documents on a document tray is continuously fed, continuous feeding of the documents is stopped in response to changing of a detection state in which a document is detected on the document tray to a non-detection state in which no document is detected on the document tray. The control unit executes a first mode in which the sheet feeding unit stops the continuous feeding of the documents in a case where the number of documents having been discharged continuously in the reading job has reached a predetermined number of sheets, regardless of a detection result of the detection unit, and a second mode which continues the continuous feeding of the documents regardless of the number of documents having been discharged continuously.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus that makes it possible to reduce the influences of dirt on a white reference chart itself, stripes caused by dust, and the like, and thereby generate accurate data for shading correction. An image processor performs shading correction on image data read by a reader unit. The read image data is compared with threshold values set for each pixel, and a pixel which is out of a range of the threshold values is determined as a singular point pixel. Data of a pixel determined as a singular point pixel is interpolated from data around the singular point pixel. Data of a pixel which is not determined as a singular point pixel is adopted as valid shading correction data. An operation controller controls the number of effective sampling lines from start to termination of sampling to be performed.

Abstract:
An operational imaging device and method for sensing a media type in a predetermined media set using a predetermined set of media type determining equations solved using measured values for a set of N variables measured by an operational sensor set in the operational imaging device. The solution of the equation set determines a media type. After a media type is determined, one or more operational parameters of the imaging device is selected for processing of a sheet of the determined media type. The equation set is generated by a training system using a classifier training engine. A plurality of training data sets containing measured variable values for each media type is collected under various conditions by a training sensor set that measures the set of N variables. After generation, the media type determining equation set is stored in memory of the operational imaging device.

Abstract:
A mail terminal senses insertion of a document into the terminal, scans the document in response to the sensed document insertion, and transmits the scanned document electronically over a telephone network. A host server receives the document over the telephone network, determines the name of the addressee from the received document, looks up document delivery instructions stored in a memory in association with the name of the addressee, and delivers the document to the addressee according to the delivery instructions. The mail terminal also prints documents that it receives from the host server.
Abstract:
A copier includes an ADF that transports electronic paper and a paper medium to a read position. The ADF includes a medium type detector, a controller, a communication reader, and an optical reader. The medium type detector discriminates between electronic paper and a paper medium. The controller controls transport of electronic paper and a paper medium. The communication reader reads electronic data stored in the electronic paper at the read position. The optical reader optically reads an image on a paper medium at the read position to obtain electronic data.
Abstract:
An image scanning apparatus includes a paper thickness detection unit arranged to detect a paper thickness of an original document based on a reception signal, and a multiple-feeding detection unit arranged to detect, based on the reception signal, whether or not the original document that is being transported has been multiply fed. Based on a detection result obtained by the paper thickness detection unit and the multiple-feeding detection unit, the transportation speed is adjusted.
