摘要: First and second field type detectors for first and second video signals have outputs indicating whether the video signals have first or second field types. The first video signal is synchronized with the second video signal for a combined display by a synchronous field memory and an asynchronous multiple line memory. The field type of the second video signal is changed when necessary to match the field type of the first video signal to maintain interlace integrity in the combined display. A field type changing circuit, which controls the synchronizing, has a first mode of operation which delays writing a current field of the first field type by one horizontal line period, a second mode of operation which advances writing a current field of the second field type by one horizontal line period and a third mode of operation which maintains a current field type. A comparison of the field type of the second signal to the field type of the first signal results in an output signal indicating one of a plurality of comparison outcomes, wherein the first and second video signals have the same field type, wherein the first video signal has the first field type and the second video signal has the second field type and wherein the first video signal has the second field type and the second video signal ha the first field type. A plurality of selectable interlace correction signals are generated, each being appropriate for one of the plurality of comparison outcomes.

摘要: A two stage interpolation system provides greater bandwidth for signals compressed and expanded by interpolation, for example video signals displayed in a zoom or enlarged mode. A finite impulse response filter generates from a first signal of digital samples a second signal of digital samples representing signal points between the samples of the first signal. The first signal is delayed, but otherwise substantially unmodified. The second signal and the delayed first signal are interleaved, for example by a multiplexer, to produce a third signal of digital values having a sample density twice that of the first signal. A compensated variable interpolator derives from the third signal a fourth signal of digital samples in which the frequency content of information represented by the first signal has been changed. The first signal can have frequency components as high as approximately 40% of the sampling rate for the first signal without significant reduction of bandwidth in the fourth signal, even when expanded. In the case of enlarging the picture represented by a video signal, the video signal can be truncated, for example in a FIFO line memory, prior to being delayed and processed by the finite impulse response filter. The compensated variable interpolator can be controlled, for example by a microprocessor or hardware equivalent, to provide selected ratios of compression or expansion.

摘要: A wide screen television apparatus comprises a video display having a first format display ratio of width to height, for example approximately 16.times.9. A first video signal defines a first picture. A second video signal defines a second picture in a second format display ratio of width to height smaller than the first format display ratio, for example approximately 4.times.3. A video signal processor asymmetrically compresses the second picture, for example 4:1 horizontally and 3:1 vertically. A video memory stores lines of video of the asymmetrically compressed picture. Another video signal processor combines portions of lines of video in the first video signal with the stored lines of video of the asymmetrically compressed picture for simultaneous display of the first and second pictures. The asymmetrically compressed second picture is displayed without aspect ratio distortion. The second picture can form an inset within the first picture. A single picture display can itself comprise a full screen of pictures from one source of from multiple sources. A video signal processor for a video display apparatus comprises a circuit for selectively changing the width and height of a picture by first and second factors respectively to control aspect ratio distortion of the picture and a circuit for generating the aspect ratio controlled picture as an output for display by the video display apparatus. The processor includes a circuit for digitizing the video signal, for subsequent subsampling.

摘要: A display system controls vertical zoom and panning. A video display has a first format display ratio. A circuit, for example one generating a raster, maps on the video display an adjustable picture display area represented in a video signal having a vertical synchronizing component. The picture represented in the video signal has a second format display ratio. A vertical height control circuit, for example one controlling the vertical height of the raster by controlling the vertical deflection current, selectively enlarges the picture display area relative to the video display. A panning control circuit adjusts in phase a vertical blanking interval relative to the vertical synchronizing component to control which portion of the enlarged picture area is displayed and which portion is not displayed. The format display ratios can be the same or different, for example 16.times.9 for the video display and 4.times.3 for the picture, in the latter case.

The sawtooth and third signals are coupled via a differential amplifier to a vertical deflection winding to produce a vertical deflection current in accordance with a difference between the sawtooth and third signals such that picture height adjustment does not affect vertical centering.

摘要: An amplitude of a sawtooth signal of a vertical period of a television signal is controlled. A level discriminating circuit 7 discriminates whether or not the amplitude of the sawtooth signal of the vertical period lies within a level of an almost proper level. There is provided a counter 9 to count a vertical sync signal when the amplitude is out of this level range. An output of the counter 9 is converted into an analog amplitude control signal by a D/A converter 12, thereby making it possible to control the amplitude at a high response speed.

摘要: The size of a color television picture field is changed without changing the size of the raster. This is achieved in an apparatus that includes means responsive to a field of television video signals for sampling same and providing a predetermined number of samples of television video signals per line and a predetermined number of lines per field and means responsive to the predetermined number of samples per line and lines per field for providing a full field of television video signals. Size reduction is accomplished by causing the first mentioned means to skip samples provided at the output thereof in groups of N, where N is the number of samples in a color subcarrier cycle, and to skip line pairs of the field.
