Abstract: Methods for steam reforming over a modified red mud catalyst composition, one method including providing a methane feed and a steam feed to react over the modified red mud catalyst composition at increased temperature and increased pressure to produce synthesis gas comprising H2 and CO, the composition comprising red mud material produced from an alumina extraction process from bauxite ore; nickel oxide, the nickel oxide present at between about 5 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of the modified red mud catalyst composition; and a Periodic Table Group VIB metal oxide, the Group VIB metal oxide present at between about 1 wt. % and about 30 wt. % of the modified red mud catalyst composition.

Abstract: Improvement in the efficiency of carbon dioxide reduction reaction is achieved. A gas supply unit having a plurality of pores is established in a lower portion of a reduction chamber, and carbon dioxide is supplied as bubbles into an aqueous solution. This can elevate a concentration of carbon dioxide dissolved in the aqueous solution without stirring the aqueous solution using a stirring bar, and render the concentration uniform in the aqueous solution. Therefore, the efficiency of reduction reaction of carbon dioxide in a reduction electrode can be improved.

Abstract: Nitrogen in a form suitable for feeding a population of microbes in a bioreactor is produced by reacting nitrogen gas and hydrogen gas to form ammonia plus an unreacted gas stream under conditions favorable to having little unreacted nitrogen gas in the unreacted gas stream. The ammonia, or a compound derived from the ammonia is fed to the microbes and the unreacted gas stream is optionally fed back into the reaction, or fed into the bioreactor. Oxygen can be produced, such as by electrolysis, and also provided to the microbes. Hydrogen from the electrolysis can be added to the hydrogen being reacted with nitrogen gas, and/or can be added to the bioreactor. Where nitrogen gas is produced from air separation, the residual gases can be another source of oxygen.

Abstract: Bimetallic oxidation catalyst devices include a support body, one or more metal A bulk deposits disposed on the support body, and a plurality of metal B atomic clusters disposed on the surface of each of the metal A bulk deposits. Metal A and metal B are different metals each selected from the group consisting of platinum group metals (PGM), Ag, Au, Ni, Co, and Cu, and substantially no metal B is deposited on the support body. At least 85% by weight of the metal B atomic clusters comprise up to 10 atoms and the maximum metal B atomic cluster size is 200 metal B atoms. The combined loading of metal A and metal B can be less than 1.5% by weight relative to the weight of the support body. Metal A can include Pd, Rh, Rh, or Pd, and metal B can include Pt, Pt, Ag, or Ag.
