    摘要: An electronic ignition device for an internal combustion engine comprises a capacitor supplied by a charging circuit, a thyristor controlling discharge of the capacitor into the primary of an ignition coil, and a control circuit including an oscillator successively producing non-conduction and conduction of the thyristor several times in response to each opening of a contact-breaker. The device also comprises an RC delay element and a bistable trigger controlled to prevent operation of the control circuit when the device is switched on while the contact-breaker is in a given position, said trigger permitting operation of the control circuit as soon as the contact-breaker comes into action.

    摘要: A two-cylinder, two-cycle engine for an outboard motor includes a pull-rope starter unit and an alternator driven, capacitor discharge ignition system. The alternator includes an annular permanent magnet secured within a flywheel skirt and includes a pair of circumferential opposite poles with diametrical spaced neutral areas. A stator assembly is mounted within the annular magnet and includes a semicircular core with a charging coil at each end. The coils are connected to charge a capacitor unit which is discharged through a control rectifier. A trigger coil is connected to the gate of the rectifier and is mounted in coplanar relation between the chargingcoils. The trigger coil is wound on a pole aligned with and spaced from the stator core with the coil and pole rotatably mounted by a housing having an integral cam for positioning a throttle lever. The housing rotates through a selected segment of the core. The outer periphery of the segment is non-circular to form an increasing air gap with advancing throttle spark position and thereby progressively increases the minimum RPM for starting of the engine, if the throttle and spark are advanced BTDC. This ensures that the piston moves past TDC during starting for all throttle positions.

    摘要: In a spark ignition internal combustion engine, an accelerometer is mounted on an engine component, preferably the intake manifold, and senses vibration including individual ringing vibrations due to engine knock or detonation. A reference signal is derived from the accelerometer signal during the portion of the engine cycle prior to possible knock-induced vibrations, which signal indicates the background accelerations due to noise. The number of individual ringing vibrations exceeding the reference signal during a predetermined amount of engine crankshaft rotation is counted. When the number of such counts exceeds a predetermined number during the predetermined crankshaft rotation, engine spark timing is retarded. If the number of such counts is less than a predetermined number during the predetermined crankshaft rotation, engine spark is advanced.

    摘要: A mechanical lock-out by which a Bendix-type starter for an internal combustion engine is rendered incapable of starting the engine if mechanism - such as the propulsion system of a power lawn mower or tractor - has been drivingly connected with the engine. The lock-out comprises a lever pivoted to the housing of the starter with a part thereof in the path of the driving pinion of the starter as it advances towards meshing engagement with the ring gear on the engine flywheel, so that the lever must be free to move with the advancing driving pinion for the starter to be operative, and a blocking member, also pivotally mounted on the housing of the starter, for movement to and from an operative position preventing such movement of the lever. A Bowden wire connects the blocking member with a manually shiftable control by which the driving connection between the mechanism to be driven and the engine is activated, to move the blocking member to its operative position as a consequence of establishing the driving connection. Resilient yieldability incorporated in the blocking member prevents damage to the mechanism in the event the blocking member is moved into its operative position after the starter has been activated.

    摘要: An ignition retarding device which cuts off the usual vacuum ignition advance to retard the ignition when the brakes are actuated or when the engine speed drops below a predetermined value, there being a further device responsive to engine temperature to restore the vacuum ignition advance whenever the temperature of the engine rises above a predetermined value. The speed is measured by an electronic tachometer whose input is connected across the distributor points and whose output is fed through a voltage comparator and an amplifier to control the energization of an electrically operated valve. The override brake and temperature signals are obtained by connections to the usual brake switch and temperature switch. Provision is made for use of the equipment with automotive vehicles either in which the brake switch is between the brake light and ground or between the battery and the brake light.

    摘要: A transistor operating as an AND gate permits a semiconductor controlled rectifier to discharge a condenser through the primary of an ignition coil when the magneto and the motor to which it is coupled are turning in the normal direction but does not allow the SCR to be fired when the motor turns in the other direction. A pulse transmitter is mounted on the armature plate of the magneto so as to provide properly timed pulses in cooperation with a projection revolving on the hub of the device. The disposition of these elements relative to the armature which provides the alternating current to the switching path of the transistor assures the appropriate polarity of the voltages applied to the transistor.
