Abstract: To reduce the attainable actuation times of an electrically actuated friction brake and simultaneously keep the friction brake inexpensive, an electrically actuated friction brake with a brake pad (3) actuated by an actuation device (10) is proposed, wherein for braking the actuation device (10) is driven by a spring and is held open by an electrical actuator (12), so that the spring actuates the friction brake (1) in case of a power loss, wherein a first transmission element (5), that is connected to the brake pad (3), and a second transmission element (8) with an elevation curve (17) are provided and a coupling element (15) is provided on the first transmission element (5), wherein a follower element (14) is arranged on the coupling element (15) that follows the elevation curve (17) under the action of the spring for actuating the first transmission element (5).

Abstract: A drum brake assembly includes a brake spider having a central aperture configured to receive an axle extending therethrough and first and second brake shoes. Each of the first and second brakes shoes has a first end pivotally coupled to the brake spider. First and second cam followers are disposed at corresponding second ends of the first and second brake shoes. A camshaft has a shaft extending through a camshaft aperture in the brake spider and disposed along a rotational axis and a cam disposed at a first end of the shaft and in engagement with the first and second cam followers. An electric motor has an output shaft coupled to the camshaft. A controller is configured to drive the electric motor to cause rotation of the camshaft and move the first and second brake shoes between positions of engagement and disengagement with an associated braking surface.

Abstract: A drum brake is provided that improves the direction of the actuating forces to reduce stress, improve efficiency and permit thicker brake linings. First and second brake shoes each have a first end pivotally coupled to a brake spider. First and second cam followers are disposed at corresponding second ends of the brake shoes. A cam engages the cam followers with movement of the cam causing the brake shoes to move between positions of engagement and disengagement with a braking surface. The cam followers are offset such that a center of the first cam follower is disposed at a first distance from a center axis of the brake and a center of the second cam follower is disposed at a second distance from the center axis with the first distance different from the second distance so as to improve the direction of the cam force vector.
