摘要： An LED downlighting apparatus includes a housing with a sidewall having a front facing edge and a back facing edge positioned adjacent to a ceiling when the LED downlighting apparatus is installed in an opening of the ceiling. A depth of the sidewall is less than one inch and a thickness of at least a portion of the sidewall is less than three millimeters. An LED board and a lens are coupled to the housing. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the lens is illuminated from a back side. One or more mechanical couplers snap fit the apparatus to a junction box installed and positioned above the ceiling such that when the apparatus is snap fit to the junction box through the opening of the ceiling, the housing appears to be surface mounted to the ceiling.

The lamp comprises a body of an extruded profile. The body comprises at least one section with a mirrored surface and at least a lens section which allows exiting of light from the body. At least one LED preferably having a LED lens is provided at the inner side of the body. This combination of optical systems results in an asymmetric beam pattern from the source.

The assembly uses a power supply that is separated from the LED banks and electrically connected to the LED banks with a plug connector that may be unplugged and plugged back in to allow the power supply or LED bank to be independently and readily replaced. The assembly provides for easy replacement of the different components of the assembly. One feature that makes the components easier to replace is that the light modules and/or the power supply may be carried by the housing that is removable from the base mount that is secured to a mounting structure such as a wall or ceiling.

The light support assembly may be pivotable, translatable and tiltable to allow for adjustment to enhance lighting uniformity in multiple directions. Accordingly, a single device can accommodate a broad range of lighting needs, the undesirable “bug eye” appearance is avoided in many situations, and even when the support assembly is tilted/rotated, the mounting of the lighting arrays on the sides, and the turning and/or tilting of the lighting arrays predominantly within the envelope of the housing contributes to avoidance of an undesirable “bug eye” appearance.
