摘要: A thin perforate, helically wound welded edge tubing is used as a filter core for a roving wound filter. The slightly roughened external edges of the spirally formed welded joint greatly adds to the ability of securing the fiber roving to the tube and prevents relative slippage therebetween. Also, the invention comprehends an apparatus for, and a method of making the helically seamed tube by first drawing a sheet metal from a supply and raising two lateral edges thereof to form flanges. The material can be guided in a helical path by engaging the inside of the flanges so that the trailing edge abuts the leading edge. The abutted edges are heated so that the flanges themselves provide the filler for a weld on the exterior surface thereof. Drive rollers are provided to move the welded tube from the welding area and to torque the tube to prevent edge separation prior to the cooling of the weld.

摘要: Corrugated, flexible, metal duct formed of a helically wound strip of lightweight metal characterized by a pair of interlocked U-shaped seam elements which constitute one leg of a common corrugation of contiguous convolutions of the strip and extend radially throughout the length of that leg so that the areas at the base of each U-shaped seam element abuts against the adjacent corrugation leg and is locked against separation thereby. Apparatus which makes such duct through the use of rollers only and void of any mandrel means is also shown.

A flat sheet of metal is provided with extended surfaces which are welded to one side of the sheet, so that a tube with internal extended surfaces can be formed by bending the sheet so that it envelopes the surfaces and welding sides of the sheets together.

摘要: A corrugated pipe forming apparatus and method in which flat sheet metal is passed through a plurality of first and second opposite roller pairs and deformed into a corrugated sheet. Lateral lips are formed parallel to the edges of the sheet and extend generally perpendicular to the sheet over the full length thereof. A pipe rolling machine helically deforms the corrugated sheet and folds the lip into a mechanical lock seam defining Pittsburgh lock of predetermined dimensions and tolerances. To maintain such dimensions and tolerances the width of the lips is adjusted by simultaneously moving one roll of each set in identical increments towards and away from the other roll of each set to thereby correspondingly change the depth of the corrugations and the width of the lips. The sheet can be moved laterally to maintain the lips of equal width. Corrugating stations of the device are defined by opposed corrugating rollers with the upper rollers held on a first frame and the lower rollers held on a second frame. Each frame includes opposite and rigid sides interconnected by fixed rigid axles. Opposed upper and lower rollers are journaled at their respective ends about each of the respective axles.

摘要: A method of thermally insulating pipe comprises rotating the pipe at a uniform speed about a substantially horizontal axis while applying a polyurethane foam mix to the surface of the pipe progressively along its length, simultaneously forming a metal tube of larger diameter than the pipe, the tube being progressively extended coaxially with the pipe and progressively enveloping the newly coated surface of the pipe, and maintaining the pipe at a temperature at which the mix constituents will react to form a foamed mass enveloping the pipe and filling the space between the pipe surface and the tube.

摘要: A method of producing welded helical seam pipe, made from steel sheet or strip which is wound into pipe formation, is disclosed. Prior to the welding of the wound steel sheet, an optically scannable reference line is applied to the steel sheet which extends parallel to and adjacent one of the edges of the sheet. The welding is effected by applying a first welding seam with a first welding head located within the pipe interior and a second welding seam with a second welding head located outside the pipe. In accordance with the invention, the optically scannable reference line is applied to that face of the sheet which forms the inner surface of the welded pipe. The thus interiorly located reference line is optically scanned so as to obtain scanning information which, through operative connection to control means, controls the welding movements or operation of both the first and the second welding heads. The inventive method is particularly suitable in the production of pipe which is tack-welded prior to finish welding. The application also discloses apparatus for carrying out the inventive procedure. This apparatus includes optical scanning means located within the pipe for scanning the reference line and means for operatively connecting the optical scanning means with the first and second welding heads for controlling the heads in dependence on the scanning information received by said optical scanning means. The procedure is also applicable to the testing of the welding seams, in which event the welding heads are replaced by testing heads, or both welding heads and testing heads are supplied.
