Abstract: An encoder includes circuitry and memory coupled to the circuitry. The circuitry determines whether to split a current luma virtual pipeline decoding unit (VPDU) into smaller blocks. When it is determined not to split the current luma VPDU into smaller blocks, scaling prediction residuals of chroma samples based on prediction residuals of luma samples is not performed. When it is determined to split the luma VPDU into smaller blocks, scaling the prediction residuals of chroma samples based on prediction residuals of luma samples is performed. The block is encoded based on the prediction residuals of chroma samples.

Abstract: An image processor includes memory and circuitry. The circuitry performs processing of approximating a decompressed image to an original image by using a neural network model trained to approximate the decompressed image to the original image. The decompressed image is obtained as a result of compression of the original image and decompression of the compressed image. The neural network model includes one or more convolutional blocks, and includes one or more residual blocks. Each of the one or more convolutional blocks is a processing block including a convolutional layer. Each of the one or more residual blocks includes a convolutional group including at least one of the one or more convolutional blocks, inputs data which is input to the residual block to the convolutional group included in the residual block, and adds the data input to the residual block to data to be output from the convolutional group.

Abstract: An encoder includes circuitry and memory. The circuitry, using the memory: stores, in a storage region, a probability parameter for entropy encoding of a first current slice included in a first picture, the probability parameter becoming available when encoding of a final coding unit (CU) of the first current slice is completed; and initializes, with reference to the probability parameter stored in the storage region, a probability parameter for entropy encoding of a second current slice included in a second picture when encoding of a leading CU of the second current slice starts. The first picture is a reference picture referred to when the second current slice is encoded, and the first current slice includes a CU located at the same position as a position of the leading CU of the second current slice.

Abstract: Provided is a display method of displaying, on a display device, video of video data where luminance of video is defined by a first EOTF indicating a correlation of HDR luminance and code values. The method includes: acquiring the video data; performing, regarding each of multiple pixels making up the video in the acquired video data, first determining of determining whether luminance of that pixel exceeds a first predetermined luminance; performing, regarding each of the multiple pixels, dual tone mapping where luminance of that pixel is reduced by a different format in a case of the luminance of the pixel being found to exceed the first predetermined luminance from the first determining, and a case of the luminance of the pixel being found to be equal to or lower than the first predetermined luminance; and displaying the video on the display device using the results of the dual tone mapping.

Abstract: A non-transitory recording medium is provided that is reproduced by a playback device having an attribute reader, a decoder, and an outputter. The recording medium has recorded therein a video stream that is encoded video information, and a management information file correlated with the video stream. The management information file includes first attribute information, indicating whether a dynamic range of luminance of the video stream is a first dynamic range or a second dynamic range that is wider than the first dynamic range. In a case where the first attribute information indicates the second dynamic range, the first attribute information also indicates a type of the second dynamic range.

Abstract: A play back device includes a readout unit and a playback unit. The readout unit reads out an encoded main video stream and an encoded sub-video stream that are recorded in a recording medium. The sub-video stream is a sub-video that is to be superimposed on the main video and displayed. The playback unit plays the main video stream and the sub-video stream that have been read out. The sub-video stream includes multiple sets, each set including a first sub-video stream for a first luminance dynamic range and a second sub-video stream for a second luminance dynamic range, which is wider than the first luminance dynamic range. In the same set in the multiple sets, a registration order of the first sub-video stream in the first database and a registration order of the second sub-video stream in the second database are the same.
