Abstract: In one aspect, methods of foil ling tooling articles from tool steel powder compositions via additive manufacturing techniques are described herein. A method of forming a tooling article comprises consolidating powder alloy into the tooling article via an additive manufacturing technique and heat treating the tooling article to provide the tooling article hardness of 35 to 65 HRC. The tooling article can be formed of an alloy composition comprising 0.2-2 weight percent carbon, 0-1 weight percent manganese, 0-1.5 weight percent silicon, 0-0.3 weight percent nickel, 0-15 weight percent cobalt, at least two of chromium, molybdenum, tungsten and vanadium in a combined amount of 5-25 weight percent and the balance iron. As described herein, the method can further comprise hot isostatic pressing the tooling article prior to the heating treatment.

Abstract: In one aspect, valve seats are described herein having structure and design addressing degradative stresses encountered by the seats during installation and operation in fluid ends. In some embodiments, a valve seat for use in a fluid end comprises a first section for insertion into a fluid passageway of the fluid end and a second section extending longitudinally from the first section, the second section comprising a frusto-conical valve mating surface, wherein the second section is encased in a ring imparting a compressive stress condition to the second section.

Abstract: A coolant bonnet for a cutting tool includes a head portion, a shank portion, an internal coolant passage extending through the shank portion and into a coolant manifold disposed within the head portion, and one or more coolant ducts extending radially outward from the manifold to an outlet port. Each coolant duct is aligned with the chip flutes of the cutting tool and directs coolant at a predetermined exit angle in an axially rearward direction toward the cutting edges of a cutting insert mounted on the cutting tool. A method of providing coolant to a cutting edge of a cutting insert mounted on the cutting tool is also disclosed.

Abstract: A reamer head for a reamer includes one or more blades separated by flutes. Each flute has a front core region proximate a front end of the cutting portion, a rear portion proximate a rear end of the cutting portion and the middle core region therebetween. The front core region has a thickness, T1, the middle core region has a thickness, T2, and the rear core region has a thickness, T3. The thickness, T2, of the middle core region is greater than the thickness, T1, of the front core region and the thickness, T3, of the rear core region. A method of making the reamer head is also disclosed.

Abstract: A milling cutter having a shank and a cutting head attached to the shank. The cutting head has a plurality of helical teeth, each tooth including a cutting tip, a leading face and a rear face. A flute is defined between the leading face of a trailing tooth, and a rear face of an immediately preceding tooth. A gully of the flute is generally W-shaped in cross section to provide effective chip evacuation. A method for manufacturing the milling cutter with the W-shaped gully of the flute using a split path grinding process is also disclosed.

Abstract: A tool body (12) for a shell end mill (10) is described with at least one helical chip guiding groove (24) arranged at the circumference of the tool body (12) for chip dissipation and at least two receptacles (28) for indexable cutting inserts (26) arranged at the chip guiding groove (24). In this case, the receptacles (28) each comprise a base surface having a bore for receiving an indexable cutting insert fastening screw (34) and at least one first abutment surface adjacent to the base surface. The transition between the base surface and the first contact surface is a groove. In addition, a cutting tool is described with such a tool body, wherein a two-sided indexable cutting insert (26) is attached in each receptacle (28).
