Abstract:
Pressure from an external force near the detonating device will collapse or move a triggering rod to thus rock an attached wobbler plate, which rocking will lift a U-shaped clamping claw that will pull a firing pin against the bias of a spring away from a primer to a position where the clamping claw automatically releases the firing pin so that it will move under the bias of the thus tensioned spring to strike and detonate the primer. In the normal position, the clamping claw prevents movement of the firing pin into the primer and the spring is not biased or biased only to a small degree. The wobbler plate has a clamped peripheral weakened sealing portion that breaks when the wobbler plate is subjected to a force above a predetermined magnitude.

SURFACE-ACTIVE ESTER AND AMIDE SALTS OF 5-SULFOISOPHTHALIC ACID ARE PREPARED BY REACTING AN ALKALI OR ALKALINE EARTH METAL SALT OF 5-SULFOISOPHTHALIC ACID DIMETHYL ESTER WITH AN ALCOHOL OR AN AMINE HAVING 4 TO 12 CARBON ATOMS IN THE ALKYL GROUP TO PRODUCE THE DESIRED DIALKYL ESTER AND DIALKYL AMIDE SALTS, RESPECTIVELY, OF 5-SULFOISOPHTHALIC ACID.

A SAFE DELAYED ACTION DETONATOR HAVING AN IGNITER, A DELAY COMPOSITION AND AT LEAST A PRIMARY EXPLOSIVE WHERE THE IGNITER AND THE DELAY CHARGE ARE MIXTURES OF SILICON WITH EITHER TITANIUM, ZIRCONIUM OR BOTH.
Abstract:
The projectile has a spring urged firing pin held out of contact with the primer by a first locking ball engaging a release member spring urged into contact with a fluid pressure responsive piston designed to axially move the release member out of engagement with the locking member against the force of the spring upon the occurrence of an external pressure above a predetermined pressure, which pressure reaches the piston through a conduit having therein a normally open valve closed by the tubular wall of the cartridge case. An additional locking ball is held in its position blocking movement of the firing pin by means of a safety member spring urged out of engagement with the ball and held against the force of its spring by the cartridge case.
Abstract:
A consumable industrial propellant cartridge having a formstabilized annular propellant charge body filled with loose ignitor composition and closed at both ends with a relatively thin powder foil coated on its inside surface with a percussionsensitive material, for example, tetrazene or tetrazenetrizinate.
Abstract:
A locking pin extends between the firing pin and primer element of a projectile to prevent their engagement during transport and while within the barrel of the firing device because of the radial abutment of a safety member that will move axially out of engagement only after the projectile has left the barrel of the firing device so that the locking member may move radially outward to arm the device. The safety member may be the radial abutment of the cartridge case tubular wall before firing and the interior surfaces of the firing device barrel during firing, with the locking member preferably being spring urged outwardly. Also, the safety member may be an axially extending pin prevented from rearward movement out of engagement with the locking member by a spacer disc separable upon exit from the barrel or the cartridge bottom piece.
Abstract:
TRANSPARENT POLYAMIDES RESISTANT TO BOILING ARE PRODUCED BY REACTING AN AROMATIC DICARBOXYLIC ACID (OR AN AMIDE-FORMING DERIVATIVE THEREOF) WITH A DIAMINE HAVING THE GENERAL FORMULA:
H2N-CH(-R1)-R2-CH(-R3)-NH2
WHEREIN R1 IS HYDROGEN OR AN ALKYL GROUP OF 1 TO 4 CARBON ATOMS, R2 IS AN ALKYLENE GROUP HAVING 1 TO 10 CARBON ATOMS IN THE CHAIN OR A PHENYLENE GROUP, AND R3 IS AN ALKYL GROUP OF 1 TO 4 CARBON ATOMS. ABOUT 1 TO 25% BY WEIGHT OF THE REACTANTS CAN BE REPLACED BY CAPROLACTAM. THE PRODUCTS ARE ESPECIALLY USEFUL FOR MAKING TRANSPARENT THIN FILMS.
