Abstract:
A chorded zither including a self-supporting metal frame with separate and structurally independent sound board panels that can be easily interchanged and affixed to said frame to create different looking and sounding instrument configurations with the same basic instrument, including sound chambers that are deeper and greater in volume than those of the prior art.
Abstract:
An adjustable height seat for a wheelchair has a seat supported on a telescoping support. The seat rises and lowers in response to repositioning of the user's body weight on the seat. A spring normally urges the seat towards an elevated condition. The seat is depressed when the user's body assumes a relatively reclined position to overcome upward urging of the spring. Conversely, the seat rises when the user's body weight is partially rested on a ground surface allowing the spring to lift the seated user's remaining body weight. The telescoping support is frictionally arrested in a generally upright or forward leaning position of the seated user. The adjustable height seat can be installed in a wheelchair frame either permanently or interchangeably with a conventional wheelchair seat.
Abstract:
A gearbox assembly includes a housing which contains a differential gear set and a two-speed reduction gear set. A spider drives differential pinion gears nested between outer pinion gears. A first and a second clutch that can be engaged “on the fly” achieve the two-speed functionality of the gearbox assembly. Another gearbox assembly includes an on-demand locking differential with a differential clutch located between differential axle side gears to selectively lock the differential axle side gears together and thereby lock the axle shafts.
Abstract:
An axle assembly includes a first and a second electric motor which drive a gearbox assembly substantially therebetween. The electric motors drive the gearbox assembly which drives the vehicle wheels through a first and second axle shaft located along a first axis. The electric motors are located along axes which are substantially transverse to the first axis. The electric motors drive the gearbox assembly which includes a first stage gear reduction, a second stage gear reduction and a third stage gear reduction. A relatively lightweight and compact axle assembly is thereby provided which will benefit from an electric motor of reduced size.
Abstract:
A platinum group metal three-way conversion catalyst composition containing a high temperature catalytic component and a low temperature catalytic component has each catalytic component present as separate distinct particles in the same washcoat layer. The catalyst composition is prepared from a washcoat slurry containing a high temperature catalyst support material, and a low temperature catalyst support material, each support material being of sufficiently large particle size so as to prevent each support material forming a solution or a sol with the liquid medium of the slurry. The platinum group metal or metals can be impregnated into each support material either after formation of the washcoat on a non-porous refractory, metallic or palletized substrate or before forming the washcoat slurry.
Abstract:
A mechanism for supporting said light-emitting device in said reproduction apparatus in an electrographic reproduction apparatus having a light-emitting device for forming, on a dielectric support member, a charge pattern corresponding image-wise to information to be reproduced. The light-emitting device support mechanism includes a carriage attached to the reproduction apparatus and movable relative thereto to a first operative position and a second remote position. A pivot mechanism is supported by the carriage so as to provide a pivot axis, the light-emitting device being mounted on the pivot mechanism for movement about the pivot axis. A reference feature is located in the reproduction apparatus, the reference feature located in a predetermined relation relative to the dielectric support member. A movable latch member is selectively engagable with the light-emitting device to move the light-emitting device from a first position, remote from the reference feature, movable with the carriage to the first operative position or the second remote position, to a second position in engagement with the reference feature to be operatively associated with the dielectric support member.
Abstract:
A web-tracking control apparatus including a mechanism for monitoring the cross-track force exerted on a moving flexible web as the web is transported along a desired travel path, and a control circuit utilizing the monitored force to provide for feedback control to correct tracking of the moving web. The web-tracking control apparatus for controlling the movement of a flexible web traveling about an adjustable support member includes at least one web edge contacting member contacting a marginal edge of the flexible web. A pivot assembly is operatively associated with the web edge contacting member while said web edge contacting member is in contact with a marginal edge of said flexible web. The pivot assembly is capable of deflecting a predetermined amount proportional to the force of the flexible web on the edge contacting member. A cross-track force monitoring mechanism is operatively associated with the pivot assembly for producing a signal representative of deflection of the pivot assembly. An electronic circuit responsive to the pivot assembly deflection signal provides a correction signal for causing adjustment of the position of the web support member so that the web support supports the flexible web for movement without any substantially cross-track force being exerted on the web edge contacting member.
Abstract:
A paper retaining means is disclosed which can be used to clamp loose-leaf stationery. The invention consists of a base from which extends two fingers spaced apart a selected distance and a clamping member having two apertures spaced apart the same distance as the respective said two fingers. Adjacent to an upper part of the clamping member are two clips adapted to grip a respective part of a finger.
Abstract:
One or more pellicles protect a cathode, the pellicles comprised of a thin layer of material that allows electrons to pass while preventing contamination of the cathode from elements originating beyond the pellicle or contamination of an outside apparatus from elements originating on or near the cathode. The pellicle can be supported by an insulator, the insulator in turn supported by a deflecting layer. The pellicle can be maintained at a positive voltage relative to the cathode, such that a voltage gradient is created between the cathode and the pellicle that accelerates electrons emitted by the cathode away from the cathode. The pellicle is located at an appropriate distance from the cathode to allow electron transmission matching the energy of the electrons at that distance.
