Abstract:
The present invention provides coating compositions with excellent curing performance. Curing can occur very rapidly for excellent cycle time, yet with minimal (if any) foaming. A preferred catalyst system helps to provide excellent initial and follow through cure through the entirety of the coating thickness, even with respect to in-mold coating (IMC) applications. Preferred aspects of the invention provide a composition having zero, or nearly zero, emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) when applied and cured.
Abstract:
A coating composition includes a UV curable film forming resin; a thixotropic and/or pseudoplastic anti-settling agent selected from at least one of an amine salt of a synthetic wax, a microcrystalline cellulose compound (MCC), a urea urethane, or a urethane enzymatically modified starch; a mar/scratch resistant additive selected from at least one of a mineral abrasive, glass particles, and ceramic particles; and water.
Abstract:
Coating compositions containing coalescents and a latex polymer, wherein the coalescent has a volatile organic content of less than about 50% and is dispersible in the coating composition.
Abstract:
A silicone-modified polyester resin and methods for making the resin are described herein. The method includes production of a siliconized intermediate which is then esterified to give a silicone-modified polyester resin. Coating compositions including the silicone-modified polyester resin are provided, and coated articles with the coating composition applied to at least a portion of a surface thereof are also provided.
Abstract:
Metal food or beverage containers are coated with a polyether polymer containing at least two ether linkages in the polymer backbone. The polymer is substantially free of segments derived from bisphenol A and epoxides thereof, and is a reaction product of, or can be derived from, (i) an aryl- or heteroaryl-group-containing diepoxide that is not derived from a polyhydric phenol or a glycidyl ester and (ii) a polymer backbone extender that has two functional groups reactive with an epoxy group and which following reaction with the diepoxide provides at least one pendant aryl or heteroaryl group on the polymer backbone, or provides at least one divalent aryl or heteroaryl group in the polymer backbone and linked to the backbone via ether linkages.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to a two-component polyurethane topcoat, comprising: a) a film-forming resin composition comprising i) an active hydrogen-containing polymer, having a hydroxyl value of 70 mg KOH/g polymer or more; ii) a polyester resin, having a hydroxyl value of less than 50 mg KOH/g resin and a viscosity of less than 6000 mPa·s at 25° C.; and iii) a package of flatting agents comprising a polysiloxane containing an effective silicon content of 30 wt % or more and an acrylics polymer having a weight average molecular weight in the range of 6,000 to 20,000 g/mol, wherein the weight ratio of the polysiloxane to the acrylics polymer is in the range of 1:5 to 1:15; and b) a polyisocyanate curing agent, wherein the ratio by weight of the component a) to the component b) is in the range of 100:10 to 100:25.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a coating composition or paint comprising a multistage latex with at least first and second stages, wherein the composition or paint is substantially free of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and capable of film formation even in the absence of coalescent agents. The base paint formulation is capable of being tinted at a point-of-sale (i.e. in-store) using a colorant composition of a type and quantity required to produce a paint of desired color and finish. The paints, show improved block resistance, scrub resistance and tack resistance. Rheological techniques as described herein may be used to determine tack resistance, print resistance, and other performance characteristics.
