Abstract: In one embodiment, a method and apparatus for resolving domain name system queries using unique top-level domains in a private network space are disclosed. For example, the method determines that a domain name service query specifies a destination residing in a private network space rather than in a public Internet space. The method then routes the domain name service query to a top-level domain name service server associated with the private network space, without routing the domain name service query to a root domain name service server in the public Internet space. The top-level domain name system server resides in the highest level of a hierarchy of domain name system servers belonging to the private network space.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, providing a request associated with a call session to a server, wherein the request includes capability information associated with user equipment. A codec is identified according to the capability information to obtain an identified codec, which facilitates media service to the user equipment. The media service is accessed from a media resource function, which in turn, is accessed by the server responsive to the identified codec. An operable resource identifier is identified responsive to a search of a codec table, wherein the server accesses the operable resource identifier associated with the media resource function from a domain name server responsive to the resource identifier not being available at the codec table. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies pertaining to enabling internet protocol carrier peering to foreign network domains are provided. A method includes identifying, by a computer system executing within an originating carrier network, a plurality of numbering plan area identifiers corresponding to a receiving carrier network. The method further includes accessing, by the computer system executing within the originating carrier network based on the plurality of numbering plan area identifiers, a plurality of numbering plan area zone file records stored on a private enabled telephone number mapping server. The method also includes creating, by the computer system executing within the originating carrier network, a single instance of a name authority pointer record placeholder within each of the plurality of numbering plan area zone file records stored on the private enabled telephone number mapping server.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a computer-readable storage medium in a media controller having computer instructions to execute a soft-phone client application on the media processor, receive an audio call or a video call originating from an IP Multimedia Subsystem network where the calls are directed to the media processor by a gateway having a switch that routes the audio call or video call in accordance with a destination address included in a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) header message, and selectively answer one of the audio call or the video call. The computer instructions can be operable to present an audio portion of the audio call through a speaker of a presentation device when an audio call is answered. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to achieve internetwork connectivity. Initiation is detected, by a first device on a first network, of an internet protocol (IP) connection with a second device on a second network, wherein the first network includes a plurality of egress devices that are configured to send requests for inter-network connection information. A subset of the egress devices are selected, wherein each of the subset of egress devices are configured to query for connection information relating to the second network. The subset of devices are caused to query the at least one other network for the connection information relating to the second network. The connection information is received relating to the second network. The connection information is caused to be used in establishing the IP connection between the first device and the second device.

If the first resource identifier associated with the first codec is not available at the codec table, accessing the first resource identifier associated with the first media resource function from a domain name server and, in turn, transmitting a first request to the first media resource function to provide the first media service to the user equipment associated with the call session. Abstract: A system for providing an architecture for enabling internet protocol (IP) carrier peering is disclosed. The system provides mechanisms for providing carrier telephone number mapping (ENUM)-based routing for subscribers of a first carrier to locate and connect with subscribers of another IP peering carrier. The system may receive an IP call from a first device of a first carrier that is destined for a second device of a second carrier. The call is forwarded to a breakout gateway control function/transit function that initiates a modified ENUM query to an internetwork packet exchange partner (IPX-P) network using an intercarrier ENUM apex domain. To retrieve a record for routing the call, the modified ENUM query is sent to an IPX-P ENUM via a domain name service name server record configuration directing to the IP address of the IPX-P ENUM. Based on the record, the call is then routed to the second device.
