摘要: A method for processing the payment of a bill in the bill payment service can include detecting within a PSTN an attempt to establish a telephone call between a caller and a call center configured to process bill payments. An identity for the calling party can be resolved externally to the call center. Also, a telephonic connection can be established between the caller and the call center. Finally, the resolved identity can be forwarded to the call center over a data communications link which is separate and apart from the established telephonic connection. Preferably, the resolving step can include querying a LIDB through a name resolution adapter disposed in the PSTN for identifying information for the caller. Moreover, the resolving step can be performed responsive to receiving an SS7 message in an SCP to set up the telephonic connection between the caller and the call center.

摘要: A method, system and apparatus for processing bill payments in a PSTN. The method of the invention can include, responsive to answering a telephone call from a caller over the PSTN, identifying the caller from a data communications source external to the telephone call and retrieving billing information for the identified caller. Once the billing information has been retrieved for the identified caller, the payment of a bill can be processed based upon the billing information. In a preferred aspect of the invention, the identifying step can include identifying the caller based upon identifying information for the caller received through a data communications link from a name resolution adapter disposed within the PSTN. For instance, the identifying step can include identifying the caller based upon identifying information retrieved from a LIDB and transmitted by the name resolution adapter.

摘要: A method of transmitting updates to a data requester can include receiving a telephony connectivity request for establishing a telephony voice channel between a data requester and a data source. The data source can be detected based upon the telephony connectivity request. A data synchronizer can ascertain an update time that the data requester last received a data update and can determine a synchronization time that the data source was last synchronized. The data synchronizer can compare the update time and the synchronization time. If the synchronization time occurs after the update time, then the data synchronizer can synchronize the data requester with the data source.

摘要: In an information processing system, a method to perform I/O (Input/Output) operations for an interpretative based program that is executing on an Interpretative Machine (IM). The method comprises the steps of: executing an interpretative based program on an Interpretative Machine (IM); receiving a request to pass data of unknown length out of the program; allocating a local buffer in the information processing unit to write the data of unknown length; writing the data of unknown length to the local buffer; determining the size of the data of unknown length in the local buffer; and passing the length of the data combined with the data in the buffer out of the program. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, a computer readable medium is described to carry out the above method.

摘要: Methods and apparatus are set forth which enable a radio frequency data communications network (1) to perform decentralized uplink network control functions (decentralized away from the centralized general communications controller (GCC) level of the network hierarchy); (2) to minimize, or in some cases eliminate, the overhead expended in making power lever (signal strength) determinations and assessments at both the GCC and base station levels of the network hierarchy (for the purpose of managing uplink communications); and (3) to allow individual subscriber radios (terminals) to dynamically determine the most desirable base station to communicate with when exchanging information a host computer via a shared RF communication channel (the link between a terminal and the base station). Additionally, an illustrative radio frequency data communication network, built in accordance with the teachings of the invention as a modified version of an existing network, is described where the modified network incorporates the aforementioned methods and apparatus.

摘要: A Cellular Data Network (CDN) identifies, collects and utilizes otherwise unused or unusable air time, in an existing Advanced Mobile Telephone System (AMPS). A Digital Cellular Overlay Network (DCON) is provided for performing CDN utilizing an underlying AMPS, where the DCON is transparent, with respect to the AMPS, and takes full advantage of existing AMPS equipment to keep the cost of performing CDN to a minimum. The resulting digital network may be used for high speed non-interfering data communications, i.e., data communications that do not degrade the underlying system's capacity and capability (qualitatively) to handle voice traffic. Expanded use of well-known radio control signals, in particular "busy bits" and "dotting sequences," provides a DCON capable of performing CDN in both a reliable and flexible manner.

摘要: A digital communication network has a plurality of remote terminals (RTs) which communicate with a plurality of base stations (BSs) by radio links operating at a single frequency. Each RT monitors the signal strengths of outbound messages and keeps an ordered table indicating which BSs produce the highest strength signals. At sign-on, an RT sends a message to the BS at the top of the list. The message includes the first predetermined number of entries at the top of the list. Each BS monitors the number of RTs it can hear and the number of users attached to each BS. The BS to which the sign-on message is sent then decides on the basis of signal strength, number of users attached, and BS coverage which BS should be attached to the particular RT and then notifies a communications controller. Such decision thus levels the workload. Each RT monitors errors and requests re-evaluation of attachment when the error rate for the BS to which it is attached exceeds a predetermined value.
