摘要: The present invention relates to the completion of lateral well bores and provides a method comprising the steps of installing a datum device in a main well bore so as to provide a datum height above the lateral: making a completion string (10) comprising a lateral lining (11), a window element (14) at an upper end of the lining (11), a swivel joint (15) located between the lining (11) and the window element (14), and a datum device engaging member (21) located above the window element (14); running the completion through the main well bore and into the lateral; rotating the window element (14) to place the window at a desired angular position; and running the completion string home to engage the datum device engaging member (21) with the datum device.

摘要: The invention relates to downhole wellbore apparatus and particularly, but not exclusively, to apparatus for use in wellbore cleaning operations. A downhole tool (2) comprises a body (4) having a bore extending longitudinally therethrough, wherein the tool (2) further comprises a one-way valve (24,26) for allowing a flow of fluid in a first direction through the tool bore and preventing a flow of fluid in a second direction through the tool bore, the second direction being opposite to the first direction. The tool further comprises means (38) for rendering the one-way valve (24,26) inoperable so as to be ineffective at preventing fluid flow; and means (44,40) for selectively making the one-way valve operable so as to be effective at allowing fluid flow in said first direction and preventing fluid flow in said second direction.

摘要: A casing brush assembly (1) comprises a mandrel (2), upper and lower stabilisers (5,6), a brush (9) and a magnet assembly (10). The magnet assembly comprises a plurality of helically extending brush elements each of which is spaced from the underlying mandrel so that it can flex inwardly to accommodate variations in casing diameter. The thickness of the brush elements is relatively thin in the portions which connect the central regions to the ends of the brush with the result that the deflection of the brush elements is largely accommodated by the relatively thin regions. The magnet assembly (10) includes three rings of magnets held in a non-magnetic cage and located beneath a thin cover of non-magnetic material. The assembly can be used in a non-rotating mode (in which the brush is free to rotate relative to the mandrel) or in a rotating mode in which the brush is rotationally fast with the mandrel.

摘要: This invention relates to a whipstock casing milling system and, more particularly, to such a system in which a window mill is secured to a whipstock so that the system may be run into a well, set and operated to open a window in a casing during a single trip. The milling system of the present invention comprises a protrusion (B) provided on the whipface of the whipstock wherein the protrusion (B) forms an extension of a relatively steep ramp surface (45) of the whipface so as to reduce damage to said surface (45) at a juncture (A) of said surface (45) with a relatively shallow ramp surface or parallel surface (46) during use of the system. The protrusion (B) thereby avoids an undercutting of a casing and a thinning of the whipstock.

A scraper assembly (2) is provided comprising a scraper element (6) incorporating: a generally cylindrical member defined by a wall having a slot extending through the wall thickness; and at least one tooth member provided on the outer surface of the wall for scraping engagement with a wellbore. The present invention thereby provides a scraper assembly which is relatively convenient and inexpensive to manufacture and which may be considered as a disposable item of downhole equipment.

摘要: The present invention relates to safety joints which permit separation of a downhole assembly at the location of the joint. The invention provides a safety joint characterized by the provision of auxiliary interconnecting means on a body (2) for interconnecting said body (2) to an auxiliary shaft after removal of a main shaft (3) from said body (2). Axial loading between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) may be thereby transferred. Furthermore, torque may also be transferred between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) in a direction opposite to that in which torque may be transferred from the main shaft (3) to said body (2). Thus, the present invention allows a length of downhole assembly located above said body (2) to be removed from a wellbore by rotation of said length of assembly in a first direction and then allows rotation of said body (2) in the same first direction by means of the auxiliary shaft in an attempt to remove a length of assembly stuck in the wellbore downhole of said body (2).

摘要: A 2-stage underreamer for use in a subterranean wellbore includes a unitary body having upper and lower blades mounted in slots formed perpendicular to each other in the body. Separate upper and lower piston assemblies are provided for driving the blades respectively from a storage configuration in which they are located substantially completely within the slots to a use position. The blades each include a steel arm having mounted thereon a base of tungsten nickel cobalt matrix in which diamond and/or tungsten carbide inserts are provided. A signal is given to the surface that the blades are in their extended position by changing the mud.

摘要: A drill string component for preventing chafing of a drill casing as a result of contact between the drill casing and a rotating drill string comprises a central mandrel (2) having rotatably mounted thereon a sleeve (11). The sleeve (11) is retained between shoulders defined on the mandrel to prevent accidental loss of the sleeve in the event of excessive wear in the supporting bearings. Axial thrust loads are transferred from the outer sleeve (11) to the mandrel by way of thrust bearings supported on the mandrel shoulders. Seals (24A, 24B) located between the outer sleeve seal bodies (23) and an inner sleeve (9) prevent the ingress of contaminants to the zone of bushings (12, 13) which rotatably support the outer sleeve.

摘要: A downhole tool, comprising: an inner body, having first and second connections in a drill string to convey fluid from immediately upper to immediately lower components. The inner body defines a flow bore which communicates between the first and second connections. An outer body disposed around at least part of the inner body is axially movable with respect to the inner body, in a direction which is parallel or substantially parallel with a longitudinal axis of the tool, such that introduction of pressurised fluid into pressure chambers tends to drive the outer body axially with respect to the inner body. The tool further comprises a component which is activated or operated by axial movement of the outer body with respect to the inner body.

摘要: A cutting tool includes an elongate main body having inlet and outlet ends with a fluid flow path defined therebetween. A piston is mounted within the main body and longitudinally movable with respect to the main body. One or more cutters are moveable between retracted and deployed positions. The piston and each cutter engage one another so that longitudinal movement of the piston with respect to the main body moves each cutter between the deployed position and the retracted position. A flow regulator is operable to divert fluid flowing into the inlet end of the tool selectively along a first path, which passes the through the piston to the outlet end of the tool, and a second path, in which the fluid tends to drive the piston longitudinally with respect to the main body.
