摘要: An LED is provided comprising two or more light-emitting Type II interfaces wherein at least two of the Type II interfaces differ in transition energy by at least 5%, or more typically by at least 10%, and wherein at least one of the Type II interfaces is within a pn junction. Alternately, an LED is provided comprising two or more light-emitting Type II interfaces wherein at least two of the Type II interfaces differ in transition energy by at least 5%, or more typically by at least 10%. The Type II interfaces may include interfaces from a layer which is an electron quantum well and not a hole quantum well, interfaces to a layer which is a hole quantum well and not an electron quantum well; and interfaces that satisfy both conditions simultaneously. The Type II interfaces may be within a pn or pin junction or not within a pn or pin junction. In the later case, emission from the Type II interfaces may be photopumped by a nearby light source. The LED may be a white or near-white light LED. In addition, graphic display devices and illumination devices comprising the semiconductor device according to the present invention are provided.

摘要: A transactional file system performs multiple file system operations as part of a user-level transaction. An application specifies that operations should be handled as part of a transaction, and the application is given a file handle associated with the transaction context. Operations are managed consistent with transactional behavior and data isolation is provided with multiple versions of a file and by tracking copies of pages that have changed. Transactional readers do not receive changes to a file made by transactional writers, until the transactional writer commits the transaction and the reader reopens the file. Logging and recovery are also facilitated by logging page data separate from the main log, with a unique signature that enables the log to determine whether a page was fully flushed to disk prior to a system crash. Namespace isolation is also provided until a transaction commits via isolation directories.

摘要: A recoil pad for a shoulder firearm includes at least one piston member that is caused to move axially from an initial axial position to a second axial position upon application of the recoil force from the firearm. The axial movement of the piston member causes fluid movement within a column relative to a variable or fixed orifice area wherein the fluid movement causes resistance that absorbs the energy. A mechanical and/or hydraulic and/or elastomeric feature returns the piston to the initial axial position upon cessation of the applied recoiling force.

摘要: A printhead with improved durability characteristics and a method for making the same. A substrate is provided which includes an ink ejector system and a barrier layer. An orifice plate having a bottom surface made of rhodium is affixed to the barrier layer so that the rhodium-containing bottom surface is securely attached to the barrier layer. The use of rhodium in the bottom surface provides substantially improved adhesion characteristics without the use of separate adhesives or, alternatively, various adhesives may be optionally be employed including polyacrylic acid and silane compositions. The rhodium-containing bottom surface also provides improved corrosion resistance. As a result, a unique printhead is produced having improved structural integrity levels. The orifice plate may likewise have a top surface made of rhodium. The use of a rhodium-containing top surface provides enhanced abrasion resistance and avoids corrosion problems.

摘要: The efficiency of writing files that are cached using mapped file I/O is improved by suppressing zeroing of uninitialized data in cached pages of a file until the file is mapped by a user mode thread. In an operating system where paging operations are controlled by a virtual memory manager and memory based caching using mapped file I/O is administered by a cache manager, suppressing zeroing of mapped files on writes is implemented by a set of internal operating system interfaces for communications between the virtual memory manager and the cache manager. When a file being cached is not yet mapped by a user mode thread, the cache manager tracks the extent to which a cache page of the file is written so that any uninitialized data in the cache page can later be zeroed when the file is mapped by a user mode thread.
