摘要： The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for authorizing activity in an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) environment. A requested activity can be a request to view a pay-per-view program or purchase an item. An account server receives a request from a viewer to view or purchase the IPTV activity. The account server checks the cost of the request against a spending limit of the viewer. If the cost of the requested item exceeds the amount available in a viewer's account, the viewer receives a message and is offered an option to request an exception to exceed the spending limit. A request for an exception to exceed the spending limit is received at the account server, and an account administrator is notified of the receipt of the request for the exception. A response is received from the account administrator to grant authorization. If no response is received within a selected time limit, the request can be implicitly rejected.

摘要： A method of providing a combined content guide for a home entertainment system is provided and includes polling a first electronic device to receive a first set of content associated with the first electronic device. Further, a second electronic device is polled to receive a second set of content associated with the second electronic device. The first set of content is merged with the second set of content and with a third set of content associated with an on-screen programming guide from a content provider to yield a combined content guide for the home entertainment system. The method further includes polling a third electronic device to receive a fourth set of content associated with the third electronic device. The fourth set of content can be incorporated into the combined content guide.

At least one remote control soft button is presented at the display and an electronic device control command is associated with each remote control soft button. Further, the electronic device control command is enabled in response to a code received at the portable communication device from a service provider. The portable communication device also includes a keypad that can be used to select the remote control soft button. Further, the electronic device control command is selected from the group consisting of: play, stop, pause, volume up, volume down, record, channel up, channel down, fast forward, and rewind. Additionally, the portable communication device includes a text input field and a send button that are presented at the display. The portable communication device selectively can control a selected remote electronic device using the at least one electronic device control command.

摘要： A method of deploying a synchronous optical network (SONET) terminal is provided. The SONET terminal includes a management interface and an Ethernet port. A layer 2/3 data switch is connected to the management interface and the Ethernet port. Data associated with the SONET terminal is received at the layer 2/3 data switch. Further, the management data from the SONET terminal is converted from STS-1 data to DSx data at the layer 2/3 data switch. In a particular embodiment, the DSx data is routed to a DS1 channel within the SONET terminal. Also, the converted management data is transported over a data network as part of a SONET signal payload.
