    Abstract: A system includes a permanent magnet generator (PMG) with a generator shaft defining a longitudinal axis. A brake system includes a brake shaft with a first end operatively connected to the generator shaft for selectively rotating with the generator shaft or braking to slow the generator shaft. A shear shaft is operatively connected to a second end of the brake shaft axially opposite the first end along the longitudinal axis. The brake system includes a press fit sleeve engaged about the brake shaft and an actuator. The actuator is operatively connected to actuate a pawl between a first position spaced apart from the press fit sleeve for normal operation of the PMG, and a second position engaged with the press fit sleeve to apply braking forces to the press fit sleeve and to the generator shaft.

    Abstract: An aircraft electric power generation and start system (EPGSS) includes a main machine, a starter permanent magnet generator (PMG), a generator PMG, and a carrier injection sensorless (CIS) system. The main machine selectively operates in a start mode or a generator mode. The starter PMG includes a first PMG stator and a first PMG rotor and is configured to rotate along with the shaft. The generator PMG includes a second PMG stator and a second PMG rotor configured to rotate along with the shaft. The CIS system determines one or both of a PMG voltage and a PMG current corresponding to the first PMG during the start mode, and determines a rotational position of the main rotor based on one or both of the PMG voltage and the PMG current.

    Abstract: A power supply system includes a first saturable reactor electrically connected to a first AC phase input, to a second AC phase input, and to a third AC phase input. The first saturable reactor is electrically connected to a first DC output. A second saturable reactor is electrically connected in parallel with the first saturable reactor to the first AC phase input, to the second AC phase input, and to the third AC phase input. The second saturable reactor is electrically connected to a second DC output. A reactor controller can be operatively connected to the first saturable reactor and to the second saturable reactor to regulate DC output voltage to the first and second DC outputs.

    Abstract: An electric motor control system including an electric motor having a winding with a first and second end, a motor controller having a phase lead, the motor controller operable to direct a phase current to the phase lead. The electric motor control system also includes a first switching device that provides an electrical connection between the phase lead and the first end of the first winding when in a disabled state, and thereby flowing the phase current from the phase lead to the first end of the first winding, and a second switching device operably connected to the motor controller and providing an electrical connection between the second end of the first winding and a common point, when in an enabled state. The motor controller is operable to change the state of the first switching device to enabled, and the second switching device to disabled, under selected conditions.
