An object of this invention is to provide a printhead tolerant of switching noise occurred when concurrently driving plural printing elements, a head cartridge using the printhead, and a printing apparatus. To achieve this object, a printhead includes plural printing elements and plural driving elements for driving the plural printing elements, and prints by these printing elements. The printhead includes the following arrangement. More specifically, the printhead includes a shift register which receives print data in synchronism with a clock signal, and a latch circuit which latches the print data input to the shift register in synchronism with a latch signal. The printhead further includes a restriction circuit which restricts input of the print data and clock signal to the shift register and input of the latch signal to the latch circuit in synchronism with input of an enable signal for driving the plural driving elements.

The disclosed printhead can speed up transfer of image data and driving of printing elements without increasing the number of signal lines and connection terminals. An image data signal supplied to the printhead has a 4-bit bus format containing block selection data in its head. This signal is separated by a selection signal, and only the block selection data contained in the head is held in a latch and supplied to a decoder. The 4-bit image data corresponding to the four subsequent segments are respectively held in the four latches of a first printing control unit.

A high-yield printhead where density unevenness is surely corrected taking into consideration various factors related to manufacturing processes of the printhead, a printer utilizing the printhead, and an apparatus and method for correcting print density unevenness by the printhead, are provided. According to the method, a plurality of correction tables generated based on the data reflecting the various factors related to manufacturing processes of the printhead are prepared in advance. A test print pattern is printed by using a full-line printhead having a memory for storing correction data, and a tendency of density distribution of the printed pattern image is analyzed. On the basis of the tendency of the density distribution obtained as a result of the analysis, the most appropriate correction table is selected from the plurality of stored correction tables. Then, correction data which is used for suppressing density unevenness is generated on the basis of the selected most appropriate correction table, and the generated correction data is transmitted to the memory of the printhead.

Correction data is generated upon taking into account the degree of influence which these factors exert upon the printhead, and the correction data is written in an EEPROM provided within the printhead.

The filter unit can be processed by a single processing in the ink paths and/or the common liquid chamber to make it possible to prevent disabled discharge from taking place due to dust particles intermingled at the time of head manufacture. In this way, the discharging stability is enhanced, making a high-speed printing possible. A workpiece is efficiently processed by a single processing which is performed to process a three-dimensional configuration with respect to the direction in which the laser beam is irradiated.
