摘要: A method for calculating a coagulation characteristic of a sample of blood, a blood fraction, or a control comprises generating an output signal indicative of coagulation of the sample, sampling the output signal at a sampling rate for a predetermined time to provide a plurality of sampled signal values, storing the sampled signal values, rectifying the stored sampled signal values to provide a plurality of envelope values, and storing the envelope values. The stored envelope values are examined in reverse time order to determine a slope of the envelope at each of the stored envelope values. All relative maxima in the stored envelope values are identified. A range of stored envelope values corresponding to each relative maximum is determined. The identified relative maxima are compared to locate an absolute maximum in the stored envelope values. The coagulation characteristic is then calculated from the stored envelope values within the predetermined range of envelope values corresponding to the absolute maximum.

摘要: A portable analytical device is provided for analysis of a component of a body fluid. A measuring facility within the device may carry out the analysis on a test element inserted therein. The test element may contain a reagent that reacts with a liquid sample of the body fluid when the test element is contacted thereby to produce a change that is characteristic of the analysis. A processor may process measuring values determined by the measuring facility to yield analytical measuring data taking into account calibration values. A standardized, wire-based computer interface may be provided on the analytical device via which the analytical device can be operated by a computer, the analytical measuring data can be transmitted from the analytical device to the computer, the analytical device can be supplied with electrical power by the computer, and the analytical device can provide software to be read-out by the computer.

摘要: In combination, an instrument for determining a characteristic of a biological fluid or a control, and a cuvette for holding a sample of the biological fluid or control, the characteristic of which is to be determined. The instrument comprises a radiation-reflective surface, a first source for irradiating the surface, and a first detector for detecting radiation reflected from the surface. The cuvette has two opposed walls substantially transparent to the source radiation and reflected radiation. The first source and first detector are disposed adjacent a first one of the two opposed walls. The radiation reflective surface is disposed adjacent a second of the two opposed walls. A second source is provided for irradiating the surface. The first detector detects radiation from the second source reflected from the surface. The second source is positioned to transmit radiation through the two opposed walls for reflection by the surface and transmission back through the two opposed walls to the first detector to indicate whether a sample has reached a first point in the cuvette.

摘要: A method of immunizing the operation of an instrument which determines a characteristic of a biological fluid or a control against noise. The instrument includes a surface upon which a user deposits a sample of biological fluid or control the characteristic of which is to be determined. The instrument irradiates the sample and detects radiation from the sample to determine the characteristic. The method comprises monitoring the detected radiation a first time to determine if the detected radiation is increasing or decreasing, forming a first change in detected radiation from said first monitoring, subsequently monitoring the detected radiation a second time to determine if the detected radiation is increasing or decreasing, forming a second change in detected radiation from said second monitoring, forming an overall change in detected radiation from the first and second monitorings, establishing a first threshold, establishing a second threshold, comparing the first change to the first threshold, comparing the second change to the first threshold, if the magnitudes of both the first and second changes are greater than the first threshold, comparing the overall change in radiation to the second threshold, and determining the characteristic if the magnitudes of the first and second changes are greater than the first threshold and the overall change is greater than the second threshold.
