Abstract: A base station broadcasts information to machine type communication (MTC) devices in the coverage area of the base station using multiple transmissions with layered modulation. Each transmission includes a different sequence of bits representing the information. A MTC device receiving the signals for the transmissions at a sufficiently high quality can recover the information by using a high modulation order on one of the transmissions. A MTC device receiving the signals of the transmissions at less than the sufficient quality can receive the information by applying a lower modulation order to multiple transmissions.

Abstract: A neighbonng cell determines that uplink interference from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) exceeds a first threshold at the neighboring cell. The neighboring cell transmits an uplink interference indicator to the UAV. In some examples, the UAV informs its serving cell of the uplink interference experienced by the neighboring cell. The serving cell can utilize information received from the UAV to make handover decisions or scheduling decisions for the UAV that caused the uplink interference. In other examples, the UAV can temporarily refrain from transmitting on at least some of its uplink resources or utilize different uplink resources for uplink data transmissions. In still other examples, the UAV can utilize downlink measurements to select which neighboring base station System Information Block messages should be monitored for an uplink interference indicator.

Abstract: A base station (eNB) determines device-to-device (D2D) transmission parameters for signal transmission over a D2D communication link between a first user equipment (UE) device and a second UE device. The eNB instructs the first UE device to transmit a reference signal that is received by the second UE device. The second UE device reports D2D channel characteristic information indicative of the received reference signal. Based on the D2D channel characteristic information, the base station determines the D2D transmission parameters and provides the parameters to the first UE device.

Abstract: In a time division duplex (TDD) communication system, an unconnected base station that is not directly connected to a core network transmits uplink backhaul signals to a connected base station when the unconnected base station is transmitting downlink signals to one or more user equipment (UE) devices and receives downlink backhaul signals from the connected base station when receiving uplink signals from one or more UE devices. After determining the transmission schedule of the connected base station, the unconnected base station selects a transmission schedule that is orthogonal to the connected base station transmission schedule. Depending on the particular implementation, the unconnected base station may be a repeater base station, a relay base station, or a self-backhauled base station.

Abstract: A Device-to-device (D2D) user equipment (UE) device communicating with another D2D UE device within a first cell transmits a D2D subframe that includes a cell identifier a second cell when the UE device moves from the first cell to the second cell. After a handover to the second cell is initiated, the D2D UE device can suspend D2D communication. The D2D UE device transmits the D2D subframe, such as D2D discovery subframe, identifying the second cell when the handover is complete. The other D2D UE device identifies the second cell to the base station providing the first cell. The base stations providing the first cell and the second cell coordinate to determine resources for D2D communication between the D2D UE devices.

Abstract: A User Equipment (UE) D2D device transmits a coverage transition indicator when the UE device leaves a service area of base station and is no longer in coverage. The coverage transition indicator at least indicates that the UE device has left the service area and is no longer in coverage. Based on the coverage transition indicator, a determination can be made as to whether the D2D group to which the UE device belongs has transitioned to an out of coverage scenario from a partial coverage scenario.
