摘要： A method and system for consolidating multiple mailboxes into a single universal mailbox. The system comprises an agent, a user database, an application database and a mail repository. The agent searches a user database to determine the list of messaging systems the user subscribes to. The agent then recalls from the application database the procedures for accessing the messaging systems and logs onto each messaging system in turn to retrieve any new messages. The agent notifies the user of new messages according to a predefined notification method.

摘要： A speech recognition system recognizes a caller identifier received during a telephone call as a speech signal from a caller. The system generates a plurality of caller identifier choices from the speech signal and receives location information of the caller. The system includes a database on which is stored a plurality of caller identifiers indexed to a plurality of location information. The system queries a database based on the received location information and retrieves one or more caller identifiers from the database. The system then selects the recognized caller identifier from the plurality of caller identifier choices based on the retrieved one or more caller identifiers.

摘要： A method of handing off a Universal International Telephone Number to the correct international carrier for handling regardless of which carrier is given the call by the local exchange carrier. If a call destined for termination in the United States is handed off to the wrong international carrier, that carrier routes the call to its international gateway as if it were destined for another country. The international gateway then routes the call to the proper international carrier with all of the routing features and billing schedules of the customer intact.

摘要： A multimedia telecommunications network provides telephone service which may involve one or more of audio, video, and data communications. In one example of the invention, the multimedia telecommunications network contains a virtual meeting services complex which provides multimedia telecommunications service to subscribers of the network. Multimedia telephone calls can be completed automatically by the virtual meeting services complex in a manner similar to that now used to complete conventional audio telephone calls. The multimedia telecommunications network containing this virtual meeting services complex is able to connect together users having diverse equipment and is able to handle integrated and nonintegrated network access mechanisms.

摘要： A cellular phone network provides location-based information to a user of a cellular phone. The cellular phone network includes a plurality of antennas coupled to at least one server. The server is coupled to a database. Stored on the database is a plurality of location-based information that is indexed to the plurality of antennas. The cellular phone transmits communication signals to one of the antennas. A phone call is established between the server and the user, and the server receives an identification of the antenna that the user transmits to. The server then queries the database and retrieves information local to the user. This information is then presented to the user in the form of menus.

摘要： A speech recognition system recognizes a customer identifier received as a speech signal from a customer. The system generates a first plurality of customer identifier choices from the speech signal and a probability associated with each of the first plurality of choices. The system includes a database having stored thereon a plurality of customer attribute parameters indexed to a second plurality of customer identifier choices. The system queries the database using the first plurality of choices, and retrieves one or more customer attribute parameters from the database. The probabilities are adjusted by the system based on the retrieved customer attribute parameters. The purchaser then places a telephone call over a telephone network to a billing server. During the telephone call, the billing server receives a billing amount for the item and a financial account. The billing server provides a confirmation number to the purchaser during the telephone call. The purchaser then sends the confirmation number to the vendor server. After verifying the confirmation number, the vendor sends the item to the purchaser and the vendor server sends the confirmation number to the billing server over the telephone network.

摘要： A modem concentrator is provided that creates network-initiated connections to users of the network. According to the method, active downstream data is received from a data network at one data port. A controller of the modem concentrator reads the active downstream data and compares recipient information contained therein with stored identifiers of users. The identifiers are stored in association with identifiers of a user-side port to which the modem concentrator is connected. The controller identifies another data port associated with the identified recipient and causes a connection to be made between the one data port where the downstream data is received and the other data port connected to the user. The modem concentrator provides a use-once registration feature. When the concentrator processes upstream data, data from a user to be delivered to the network, it reads the upstream data to identify source information identifying the user that generated it. It stores the source information for use in later network-initiated connection attempts.
