摘要: A method is provided for efficiently managing energy consumption using stored energy. The method accepts input energy (e.g., from a power utility) and maintains a record of energy consumption. An energy consumption peak is predicted in response to analyzing the record of energy consumption, and the input energy is augmented with stored energy during the predicted energy consumption peaks. More explicitly, a peak shaving value is selected based on a fraction of the predicted energy consumption peak, and the stored energy is used when energy consumption exceeds the peak shaving value. In one aspect, after a determination is made to use stored energy, it is simply used while it is available. Otherwise, it is supplied based upon an analysis of a predicted value of the stored energy.

摘要: Aspects of the present invention are related to systems, methods and apparatus for automatic quality assessment of a video sequence. According to a first aspect of the present invention, a quality index may be generated by combining a spatial quality index and a temporal quality index. According to a second aspect of the present invention, a spatial quality index may be calculated using a modified exponential moving average model to pool multi-scale structural similarity indices computed from test frame—reference frame pairs. According to a third aspect of the present invention, a temporal quality index may be generated by averaging multi-scale structural similarity indices computed from difference image pairs, wherein one difference image is formed between reference frames and another difference image is formed between a reference frame and a test frame.

摘要: A display device includes power management by including a first input suitable to receive electrical power from an outlet for providing power for the operation of the display device. The display device includes a second input, separate from the first input, suitable to receive electrical power from an external battery source for providing power for the operation of the display device. The display device includes an internal battery source enclosed within the display device suitable for providing power for the operation of the display device. A source select is enclosed within the display device that selects power from at least one of the first input, the second input, and the internal battery for providing power for the operation of the display device. A processor receives video content from a video source and selectively modifies a backlight of the display device based upon the power source selected by the source select in such a manner as to reduce the power consumption of the display device. The processor may additionally change the media playback behavior to decode and playback only some of the video frames to reduce the power consumption of decoder and display device.

摘要: Systems and methods for enhanced navigation of streaming video are disclosed. An exemplary method involves receiving a video as it is streamed from a server over a computer network. A first user request is received to display a first navigation video strip on the display device. The first navigation video strip includes a first plurality of video frames from the video. In response to the first user request, first instructions are obtained for displaying the first navigation video strip. The first navigation video strip is then displayed on the display device in accordance with the first instructions.

摘要: The number of audio/visual packets that are sent over a wireless channel of a wireless network and that are effectively lost at a client application is reduced by determining the number of packets that were effectively lost during a measurement period and by selecting at a server application a MAC-layer retransmission value that is based on the number of packets that are effectively lost during a measurement period. The number of packets that were effectively lost during the measurement period includes a total number of packets that were never received by the client application during the measurement period and a total number of packets that arrived after a corresponding deadline for a packet during the measurement period.

摘要: A system and method have been provided for achieving simultaneous media playout in a network including a server and a plurality of clients. The method comprises: from a server, supplying a media stream to clients at a first bitrate (R1); determining the network delivery requirement; and, in response to the network delivery requirements, modifying the supply of the media stream. Determining the network delivery requirements includes determining either the buffering capacities of the clients, or the media streaming disruptions. To determine the buffering capacities of the clients, a first minimum client buffering capacity (C1) is determined by polling the clients for their respective buffering capacities, and selecting the first minimum buffering capacity (C1) to be equal to the client with the smallest buffering capacity.
