摘要： An LCD device includes a reflective area in each pixel. A reflection film having a convex-concave surface is provided in the reflective area, film in cross section configuration is formed. Each pixel includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode for applying a lateral electric field on a LC layer. The inclination angle of the reflection film has an inclination angle distribution, wherein the angle component in an area corresponding to the electrodes has a lower angle distribution than the angle components in an area corresponding to a gap between adjacent two of the electrodes.

摘要： There is provided a light-reflector used in a liquid crystal display device which uses an externally incident light as a light source by reflecting the externally incident light to a viewer, wherein the light-reflector is formed at a surface thereof with a rugged pattern comprised of an alternating pattern of pixel pattern areas, each pixel pattern area positioned to overlie a respective one pixel of the liquid crystal display device, each of the pixel pattern areas of the alternating pattern being different, wherein each pixel pattern area of the alternating pattern is comprised of alternately formed recessed and raised portions, and the alternating pattern is formed periodically repeatedly every two pixels.

The organic film has first raised and recessed portions at a surface thereof, and second raised and recessed portions formed at a surface of the first raised and recessed portions. The first raised and recessed portions include raised portions and recessed portions at least one of which is arcuate in cross-section, and the second raised and recessed portions are smaller in size than the first raised and recessed portions. The reflective film is shaped reflecting the first and second raised and recessed portions.

Provided is a transflective liquid crystal display device that includes: within a unit pixel, a reflective area including a pixel electrode and a common electrode as a pair and a reflector, and a transmissive area including a pixel electrode and a common electrode as a pair; a liquid crystal layer provided to the reflective area and the transmissive area; storage capacitances for the reflective area and the transmissive area provided in a lower layer of the reflector for changing a potential of the pixel electrode by following a potential of the common electrode; and a suppressing device for suppressing a light leakage in the liquid crystal layer when the pixel electrode is affected by a potential of the reflector due to capacitance coupling generated between the reflector and the pixel electrode.

摘要： A transflective LCD includes a LC layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates, and a pair of polarizing films. The LCD device includes a reflection area and a transmission area in each pixel, the transmission area having a reflection film. A retardation film has a first portion in the refection area between the reflection film and the LC layer, and a second portion in the transmission area between the LC layer and the rear polarizing film. The retardation film has a slow axis perpendicular to an initial orientation direction of the LC molecules upon absence of an applied voltage and perpendicular or parallel to the optical axis of the front polarizing film. The orientation of the LC molecules upon display of a dark state has a direction different between the reflection area and the transmission area.

摘要： A reflector capable of preventing stain caused from the interference among the beams of light, for reflecting light incident on an LCD module to utilize the light as a light source for display. The reflector includes a plurality of projecting and recessing patterns which are irregularly disposed on the reflector, and each projecting and recessing pattern is disposed corresponding to prescribed polygon shape as a grid, and is repeated in the plane direction of the reflector so that the length of the edge or the distribution of distance between the centers of each projecting and recessing pattern conforms to the Gaussian distribution. The reflector also includes a unit area constituted of the plurality of polygon shapes, so that one edge of the unit area is integral multiple of a unit pixel and substantially 1900 μm or more, and smaller than or equal to the entire screen of the LCD module.

摘要： A reflection plate is formed so as to have a wavy surface, and to have uneven distribution of normal line directions of the surface in terms of a specific azimuth angle. The wavy surface is formed due to line-shaped protruding patterns and an insulation film layer. The protruding patterns intersect with one another to form concave portions each having a shape of a closed figure. The protruding patterns are formed by patterning such that they have almost uniform thickness.
