Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a computer-based method for providing image data of a region of a target object (31), comprising the steps of estimating (706) a first intermediate object function indicating at least one characteristic of a first sub-region (501, 503) of said region of the target object, estimating (706) a second intermediate object function indicating at least one characteristic of a second sub-region (502, 504) of said region of the target object, and combining (707) the first and second intermediate object functions to form a combined object function indicating at least one characteristic of the region of the target object (31).
Abstract:
A security tag comprising at least one overt data carrier (10), and at least one covert data carrier (25), the covert data carrier comprising a ring (25) that is formed around the overt data carrier (10). The covert data carrier (25) is invisible to the unaided eye when lit with visible light, but visible when illuminated with other light, for example UV light.
Abstract:
A piston-type air brake actuator includes a cylinder having an internal sliding surface of substantially uniform cross-section, a piston dimensioned to have a substantially air tight, axially slidable fit within the cylinder, and a pushrod rigidly secured to the piston for engagement with a pivoting operating shaft of a disc brake. The piston is provided with a compliant peripheral seal to permit articulation of the piston as the pushrod engages the operating shaft during pivoting motion of the operating shaft.
Abstract:
A parking brake mechanism for an air-actuated disc brake includes an electrically powered actuator, an extensible device drivably connected to the electrically powered actuator and able to extend and retract and be held in place in an extended position to thereby apply a brake, and a resilient device arranged to act on the extensible device and maintain a desired level of force to be applied by the parking brake mechanism in the event of contraction of brake components due to cooling.
Abstract:
A brake caliper has a brake pad having a backplate with a friction material attached to one side and a loading face on an opposite side. The caliper further includes a piston that applies a force to the loading face. The brake pad is releasably attached to the piston, thereby eliminating a separate brake pad retaining structure in the caliper.
Abstract:
Traditionally, in fault diagnosis systems, the user is instructed to investigate symptoms exhaustively until a single fault is identified. A more advanced known system recognises that it may be cost effective to address a fault that has been determined as being likely but not certain to exist; in preference to further examination of the symptoms. However this technique has been found not to work well when a symptom is known to be only sometimes associated with a fault. The invention addresses this problem by 1) deriving a first value, for each fault, of probable benefit of acting on that fault and for identifying the fault for which that value is greatest, 2) deriving a second value, for each symptom, of probable benefit of an investigation into that symptom and for identifying the symptom for which that second value is greatest, and 3) comparing the greatest first value with the greatest second value thereby determining when to switch from investigating symptoms to acting upon a fault. By employing the invention the aforementioned problem can be overcome because the system calculates the extent to which each symptom examination would improve the situation, assuming no further symptom investigations are used.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed towards a novel procedure and system for making a security tag for an aluminum-pressed, cardboard container. The method employs a system of distancing the tag from the container and a method of calibrating the tag. The tag is then inserted into a specially designed cap and spaced a given distance from the container. The product is sealed and then sold to the consumer.

Abstract:
Providing secure end-to-end notifications from a notification source to a notification sink despite the notification mechanism including one or more message transit points between the notification source and the notification sink. Initially, security information (e.g., the master security, the cryptographic algorithm, and the like) is negotiated out-of-band from the one or more message transit points so that the message transit points are not apprised of the security information. When a designated event occurs, the notification source generates a push message that includes the notification encrypted using the pre-negotiated security information. When the notification sink receives the push message, the notification sink decrypts the notification using the pre-negotiated security information, as well as supplemental information provided in the push message. Thus, the message transit points only have access to the encrypted form of the notification.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, devices and/or storage media for passwords. An exemplary method tiles an image, associates an index with each tile and optionally determines offsets for select tiles. Further, the tiling optionally relies on probability and/or entropy. An exemplary password system includes an image; a grid associated with the image, the grid composed of polygons; an index associated with each polygon; and an offset associated with each polygon wherein password identification relies on one or more indices and one or more offsets.
