摘要: A parking brake mechanism for an air-actuated disc brake includes an electrically powered actuator, an extensible device drivably connected to the electrically powered actuator and able to extend and retract and be held in place in an extended position to thereby apply a brake, and a resilient device arranged to act on the extensible device and maintain a desired level of force to be applied by the parking brake mechanism in the event of contraction of brake components due to cooling.

摘要: A method of applying a parking brake mechanism for a foundation brake includes several steps. The parking brake mechanism incorporates an electric actuator, an extensible device drivably connected to the electric actuator, and a resilient device arranged to act on the extensible device and maintain a desired level of force to be applied by the parking brake mechanism in the event of contraction of components of the foundation brake. The method includes the steps of signaling application of a service brake actuator to apply the brake, signaling driving of a first electric actuator to cause the extensible device to be able to retain the foundation brake in the brake applied position achieved by the service brake actuator, signaling the release of the service brake actuator, signaling driving of a second electric actuator to further compress the resilient element, monitoring a characteristic of the brake to determine if a desired force has been applied by the parking brake mechanism, and signaling driving of the electric motor to stop once the desired force has been reached.

摘要: A co-axial wear adjuster and wear sensor for a brake caliper includes a sleeve having an external tooth form engageable with a toothed adjustment wheel of a brake tappet. The sleeve rotates with the tappet and is threaded to engage a relatively non-rotatable, but axially movable, bolt. A wear sensor is partly within the sleeve and has a plunger operably engaged with the bolt. The bolt may be tubular to carry a screw-threaded head whereby a position of the plunger may be set.

摘要: A parking brake assembly for an air actuated disc brake includes an operating shaft for amplifying a force supplied by an air actuator and transmitting the force to brake pads. The operating shaft is pivotable about an axis between a rest position at which a braking force is not applied and an actuated position at which the braking force is applied. An abutment surface on the operating shaft is selectively engageable by a complementary latch of the assembly to retain the operating shaft in the actuated position and thereby apply the parking brake. The abutment surface has a helical configuration.
