摘要: An electrical submersible pumping system includes thrust bearings and radial bearings fabricated from a micro-grained polycrystalline diamond compact (“USPDC”) material that is ultra-strong; and where the USPDC is produced using a catalyst free process. In examples, all components of the bearings are formed from the ultra-strong USPDC material. Pads are in the bearings that have a contact surface, and the pads selectively tilt about a tilt member in response to variations in an opposing contact surface. The tilt members are attached to or otherwise associated with the pads, and are in contact with a resilient member that improves tilting response of the pads. The resilient members are encased in jackets that cover surfaces of the resilient members not in contact with the tilt members. The jackets are set in channels formed in structure of the bearings.

摘要: Tools and methods are described to measure dimensions of wellbores. Downhole caliper tools include: a downhole collar; an uphole collar; and a caliper sensor assembly disposed between the downhole collar and the uphole collar. The caliper sensor assembly include: an annular sensor module defining a plurality of radially extending tracks; and a caliper including: a plurality of linear slide arms, each linear slide arm at least partially disposed in the annular sensor module in one of the plurality of radially extending tracks and radially moveable relative to the annular sensor module, each linear slide arm extending from a first end within the annular sensor module to a second end outside the annular sensor module, and a cover extending from the downhole collar to the uphole collar. The annular sensor module can measure the radial position of the plurality of linear slide arms relative to the annular sensor module.

摘要: A wellbore fluid monitoring system can implement a method while drilling a wellbore using a drilling assembly that includes a drill string, a rotary table and a bell nipple below the rotary table. Air flowing in a downhole direction through a portion of an annulus within the bell nipple below the rotary table responsive to a decrease in a liquid level in the portion of the annulus is sensed. The annulus is formed by the drill string and an inner wall of the wellbore. In response to sensing the air flowing in the downhole direction, a flow rate of the air flowing in the downhole direction over a period of time is measured. Based on the flow rate and the period of time, a volume of air flowed in the downhole direction over the period of time is determined. A liquid level relative to the rotary table is determined based on the volume of air flowed in the downhole direction over the period of time.

摘要: A method of forming a composite cutter for a downhole drilling tool is described. The method includes: mixing a polycrystalline diamond powder and a cubic boron nitride powder with a molar ratio between 0.1 and 0.9 to form a catalyst-free composite mixture; placing the catalyst-free composite mixture into a mold configured in a shape of a cutter; exposing the catalyst-free composite mixture to an ultra-high-pressure, high-temperature treatment including a pressure between 11 Gigapascals (GPa) and 20 GPa, and a temperature between 1300 Kelvins (K) and 2600 K to form a solid composite body; and cooling the solid composite body to form the composite cutter.
