Abstract: A permanent magnet contains a rare-earth element R, a transition metal element T, and boron. The permanent magnet contains a plurality of main phase grains and a plurality of soft magnetic grains. The plurality of soft magnetic grains contain Fe. A cross-section of the permanent magnet includes a plurality of soft magnetic regions. The cross-section of the permanent magnet is parallel to an easy magnetization axis direction of the permanent magnet. Each of the plurality of soft magnetic regions contains the plurality of soft magnetic grains aligned along a direction orthogonal to the easy magnetization axis direction. The plurality of main phase grains and the plurality of soft magnetic regions are alternately disposed in the easy magnetization axis direction. An average value of width of the plurality of soft magnetic grains in the easy magnetization axis direction ranges from 20 nm to 5 μm.

Abstract: The present application is a new improvement in the fine-grained cubic boron nitride sintered compact which may be employed to manufacture a cutting tool. The compact contains at least 80 vol % cBN with a metallic binder system and is sintered under HPHT conditions. The improvement incorporates alloys of aluminum in the metallic binder system. The invention has proved beneficial in the machining of cast iron.

Abstract: Provided is a method of manufacturing a soft magnetic dust core. The method includes: preparing coated powder including amorphous powder made of an Fe-B-Si-P-C-Cu-based alloy, an Fe-B-P-C-Cu-based alloy, an Fe-B-Si-P-Cu-based alloy, or an Fe-B-P-Cu-based alloy, with a first initial crystallization temperature Tx1 and a second initial crystallization temperature Tx2; and a coating formed on a surface of particles of the amorphous powder; applying a compacting pressure to the coated powder or a mixture of the coated powder and the amorphous powder at a temperature equal to or lower than Tx1−100 K; and heating to a maximum end-point temperature equal to or higher than Tx1−50 K and lower than Tx2 with the compacting pressure being applied.

Abstract: A disc cutter for a cutting unit used in an undercutting operation and a method of producing the same. The disc cutter including an annular disc body made of a metal alloy or metal matrix composite having a first side, a second side arranged substantially opposite to the first side and a radially peripheral part. At least one metal alloy, metal matrix composite or cemented carbide cutting part is mounted in and substantially encircling the radially peripheral part of the disc body which protrudes outwardly therefrom to engage with the rock during the mining operation. The at least one cutting part is made from a material having a higher wear resistance than the material used for the disc body, wherein the disc body and the cutting part are joined by diffusion bonds.
