    摘要: A cyanate ester system is disclosed. An aryl ether oligomer may be made from a dihydroxyaromatic compound and a dihaloaromatic compound in the presence of a base. The oligomer is then reacted with a cyanide compound in the presence of a base to form the cyanate ester shown below. The cyanate ester may then be cross-linked to a thermoset having triazine ring cross-links HO—Ar2O—Ar1—O—Ar2nOH.

    摘要: Disclosed are an oligomer and a phthalonitrile monomer having the formulas: M is a metal or H. The value n is an integer greater than or equal to 1 for the oligomer and greater than or equal to 0 for the phthalonitrile monomer. Ar1 and Ar2 are independently selected aromatic- or heterocyclic-containing groups. Ar1, Ar2, or both are heteroaromatic or heterocyclic groups containing a nitrogen, sulfur, or oxygen heteroatom. Also disclosed are thermosets and pyrolyzed materials made from the phthalonitrile monomer.

The composition is made by: heating a precursor composition under a non-oxidizing or reducing atmosphere to form a carbon composition of carbon nanotubes and amorphous carbon; and calcining the carbon composition in the presence of oxygen to oxidize and vaporize the amorphous carbon without oxidizing the carbon nanotubes. The precursor composition includes a mixture or complex of a transition metal compound and an organic compound that chars at elevated temperatures.
