    摘要: A new class of materials for use in electric and electroluminescent devices having one or more phosphine oxide moieties bonded by single bonds to two outer groups. In embodiments having two or more phosphine oxide moieties, the two or more phosphine oxide moieties are further joined by a bridging group. By selecting appropriate bridging and outer groups, the new class of materials of the present invention enables designers to “tune” the electrical and electroluminescent characteristics of the materials. The phosphine oxide moiety restricts electron conjugation between the bridging and outer groups, isolating the bridging and outer groups from each other, and allowing the photophysical properties of the bridging and outer groups to be maintained in the molecule. The lowest energy component (bridging group or particular outer group) thus defines the triplet state, highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular energies for the entire molecule.

    摘要: A method for coating a thin film of a non-polymeric compound on a substrate by providing a mixture of the non-polymeric compound and a fluid carrier. This mixture is then pumped into the interior of a heated evaporation box having an internal temperature sufficient to convert substantially all of the non-polymeric compound and fluid carrier to a gaseous form. The non-polymeric compound and fluid carrier are then removed from the evaporation box via exit slit in the evaporation box. Adjacent to the exit slit, and maintained in a vacuum, is a substrate upon which the non-polymeric compound condenses. The substrate is in motion, for example on a web roller, thereby allowing a continuous coating of the non-polymeric compound to be applied to the substrate.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to an organic optoelectronic device, such as an OLED device, provided with a vacuum deposited conformal composite coating for protecting the device from environmental elements such as moisture and oxygen. The present invention is also directed to a method for vacuum depositing a conformal composite coating directly onto an organic optoelectronic device, such as an OLED device, on a substrate. According to one embodiment, the invention provides a protected OLED device comprising a substrate; an active region positioned on said substrate; a first protective layer disposed over the active region; and a second protective layer disposed over the first protective layer, wherein said second protective layer comprises multiple sub-layers that further comprise an alternating series of two or more first polymeric sub-layers and two or more first high density sub-layers.
