A drive force control method for a four-wheel drive vehicle including a torque distributing mechanism capable of changing a drive force distribution ratio between front and rear wheels and a drive force distribution ratio between right and left front wheels or between right and left rear wheels. This method includes the steps of increasing the drive force distribution ratio of the rear wheels to the front wheels according to an increase in absolute value of a lateral G signal, and increasing the drive force distribution ratio of a turning outer wheel as one of the right and left front wheels or one of the right and left rear wheels to a turning inner wheel as the other. A lateral G sensor signal is corrected by an estimated lateral G signal calculated according to a steering angle and a vehicle speed to obtain a control lateral G signal, which is used as the lateral G signal.

In a vehicular driving force distribution system, a left or right torque distribution clutch is selectively engaged to lock a carrier member or a sun gear of a planetary gear mechanism, whereby torque can be distributed between left and right wheels. Also, if a differential limitation clutch is engaged to control relative rotation of the sun gear and the carrier member of the planetary gear mechanism, the planetary gear mechanism enters a locked state, so that the left and right wheels are integrated to perform differential limitation. By the arrangement of merely providing the differential limitation clutch, the differential limitation can be performed by simple control and moreover the control response is improved, as compared with the case where differential limitation is performed by controlling engagement forces of the left and right torque distribution clutches.

The control device can also be applied to a vehicle having a specification in which the co-operative control is carried out. In order to achieve this, the steering torque detected by the steering torque detecting device is input into a corrected steering torque calculating device of a first electronic control unit for controlling the driving force and/or braking force distribution device and a corrected steering torque which has been calculated in the corrected steering torque calculating device is input into the second electronic control unit for controlling the electric power steering device. The second electronic control unit controls the electric power steering device based on the corrected steering torque and thus the torque steer phenomenon caused by the driving force and/or braking force distribution device is suppressed.

This suspension system further includes a link mechanism which includes a first substantially vertically extending rod connected to the knuckle at a location more inward of the vehicle body than the king pin axis, and a second rod connected at one end to the first rod and at the other end to at least one of the vehicle body and the lower arm. A resilient device is connected to the link mechanism and adapted to exhibit a resilient force repulsive to the deformation of the link mechanism. Thus, even if the king pin offset is set at a small value, a restoring torque can be sufficiently insured in the steering device when steering through a large steering angle at a low speed.

The control means includes vehicle speed determining means for determining a vehicle speed from a follower wheel spaced, drive wheel speed determining means adapted to select a smaller one of the drive wheel speeds as a drive wheel speed, when the inner-side wheel in turning movement is racing, and to select a larger one of the drive wheel speeds, when the outer-side wheel in turning movement is racing, and torque determining means for determining the LSD torque from the vehicle speed and the drive wheel speed. This ensures that only when the inner wheel is racing, the smaller one of the drive wheel speeds can be selected, and an LSD torque can be distributed to the outer wheel, thereby easily effecting the adjustment of the locus of turning movement of the vehicle when the inner wheel is racing, while properly controlling the behavior of the vehicle.
