摘要： A light guide panel includes: a light guide layer having a light incident surface; a polarization separation layer configured to select a desired polarization among light emitted from the light guide layer and to emit light having the polarization; and a light homogenization layer including a plurality of fibers and a supporting medium of the fibers, the light homogenization layer configured to diffuse and scatter light incident on the light guide layer into the light guide layer. The polarization separation layer includes: a plurality of first fibers having birefringence; and a first supporting medium that is isotropic and configured to support the first fibers. The refractive index of the first supporting medium corresponds to at least one of two different refractive indices of the first fibers. The light homogenization layer includes: a plurality of second fibers having birefringence; and a second supporting medium that is isotropic and configured to support the second fibers.

摘要： An image display device includes a light source which emits laser light; an optical element which is operable to switch between a first state for reducing a coherence of the laser light and a second state for substantially maintaining the coherence of the laser light; a switching control circuit which controls the optical element; an imager which modulates the laser light transmitted through the optical element; and a modulation control circuit which controls the imager based on an image signal. The modulation control circuit causes the imager to render an image pattern for generating an image by changing alight amount at each pixel position when the optical element is in the first state, and causes the imager to render a hologram pattern for generating an image by diffraction when the optical element is in the second state.

摘要： A projection type video display is provided with three LED light sources. A first LED light source emits a light in red, a second LED light source emits a light in green, and a third LED light source emits a light in blue. Lights in respective colors emitted from each LED light source are guided into a light incidence surface of a rod integrator by a cross dichroic mirror. The cross dichroic mirror is formed of a first cross dichroic mirror portion and a second dichroic mirror portion. The first cross dichroic mirror portion is divided into two portions, and the second cross dichroic mirror portion, too, is divided into two portions. The cross dichroic mirror has structure of a cross arrangement in which these four divided portions bring respective corner sides into close contact.

摘要： There are provided an optical member, an illuminating device, and a projection type video display apparatus, capable of satisfying both or at least one of the following two functions. That is, one is to prevent light re-incident upon a reflective polarizer from becoming linearly polarized light having an undesirable polarization direction. The other is to improve exploiting efficiency of returned light. A reflection member and a ¼λ plate are disposed on the light entrance surface side of a rod integrator, and a reflective polarizer is disposed on the light exit surface side thereof. The reflection member is formed with a light transmission-use aperture, and an LED chip of the LED is positioned in the light transmission-use aperture. A mirror is formed at the rear surface of the LED chip, thereby eliminating occurrence of light leakage from the light transmission-use aperture. Furthermore, provision of the above-described ¼λ plate prevents the light re-incident upon the reflective polarizer from becoming linearly polarized light having an undesirable polarization direction.
