A loading system of artillery guns to enable modular charges that are combinable into larger units to be handled in a main magazine with a number of mutually parallel magazine tubes designed to accommodate the modular charges and a retrieval tube whose infeed/outfeed aperture can be docked with the outfeed aperture of any magazine tube. The retrieval tube is used to transfer a selected number of modular charges from the magazine tubes to a loading pendulum used for loading the gun.

A method and an apparatus for loading artillery guns intended for non-cartridge ammunition is provided. The loading is done by a pair of flick rammers including a first flick rammer for shells and a second flick rammer for propellant charges. Each of the flick rammers is positioned at an end position where the flick rammers are loaded with the shell and propellant charge, respectively, and in which the gun can recoil between the flick rammers. After the first flick rammer is loaded, it is moved towards the second flick rammer into a position in which the shell in the first flick rammer is in line with a gun barrel. The first flick rammer is then activated to move the shell into the gun barrel. The flick rammers are then jointly displaced in an opposite direction until the first flick rammer is in its end position and the propellant charges in the second flick rammer are in line with the gun barrel. The second flick rammer is then activated moving the propellant charges into the gun barrel and after this the second flick rammer is returned to its end position.

A chute magazine for storing and supplying modular propelling charges. A magazine floor is aligned in a direction in which the propelling charges are to be supplied and has a frontal end region formed as a collecting trough. A plurality of parallel chute walls are arranged at a right angle to the magazine floor and define a plurality of vertical chutes for the storage of superposed stacked rows of propelling charge modules. The chute walls have lower ends adjacent to and separated from the magazine floor to define a passage between the magazine floor and the adjacent ends and at right angles to the chute walls for supplying the propelling charge modules in a direction transversely to the chute walls into the trough. An automatically driven pusher is disposed in the passage above the magazine floor for pushing propelling charge modules disposed in the passage into the trough.

In an armoured vehicle with a turret, a weapon mounted therein and a magazine housed in the armoured vehicle and receiving large calibre ammunition in the upright position in a concentric arrangement with respect to the turret rotation axis is arranged a loader, which has a loading arm gripping the ammunition on the magazine and raising it into an aligned position with the weapon bore axis, i.e. the loading position. The loader is arranged on a ring mount positioned roughly below the weapon breech block on the turret platform and whose rotation axis coincides with that of the turret and has a multilever guide supported on the ring mount and movable in a vertical plane, which raises the loading arm with the upright ammunition in a steep movement path and only towards the end of the movement path swings into the loading position.

An armored vehicle with an overhead or top-mounted cannon or barreled weapon, which is supported in a forked cradle support so as to be elevatable about a bearing trunnion axis, and which includes an arrangement for the storge of the ammunition and the conveyance of the ammunition from a main storage magazine and from an auxiliary storage magazine. A vertically standing projectile loading tube or barrel is rotatable about its longitudinal axis, whose longitudinal axis concurrently consists of the azimuthal or bearing axis of the barreled weapon, and which, in the position of rest of the barreled weapon, intersects at one point with trunnion axis and the tilting axis of the rotary shell or projectile chamber of the barreled weapon. Hereby, independently of the elevation of the barreled weapon, the shell or projectile chamber is movable into a vertical position extending coaxially with the loading tube.

A firearm is disclosed for firing caseless ammunition. The firearm fires projectiles by ignition of a separate propellant cartridge disposed therebehind, the projectile carrying a primer charge for igniting the propellant cartridge. The firearm comprises a body including a receiver, a barrel connected to the receiver, and a firing chamber communicating with a bore of the barrel. A mechanism is provided for feeding a projectile and a propellant cartridge therebehind into the receiver. A bolt is slidably mounted in the body and includes laterally open pockets for receiving the fed projectile and cartridge and for advancing them to an armed position within the firing chamber. A portion of the bolt is arranged to ignite the primer charge when the projectile reaches the armed position. The primer charge is disposed within a metal casing, the latter being mounted by friction fit within a recess of the projectile. A sleeve formed of anti-friction material surrounds the primer casing to facilitate insertion of the primer casing into the recess. The primer casing may contain a slower burning tracer material disposed ahead of the primer charge and to be ignited thereby.

A system for feeding and firing ammunition of the variety having no casing. Sealing of the firing chamber is accomplished by providing a reciprocating bolt assembly having a bolt projection which is telescopingly received in the barrel bore. The projection picks up and seats the projectile in the firing chamber. The propellant charge may be secured to the projectile, or may be separately loaded in the bolt mechanism. In the latter case, a fluid passage extends from the propellant chamber through the bolt projection to the projectile chamber.
