Device, method, and system for recording diffractive high resolution text, pictorial, and/or other graphical information is provided which is particularly suited to recording information that would be difficult to reproduce by typical counterfeiting methods. The information recorded may be used to authenticate the recorded item, or indirectly, an item to which the recording is attached. Such items may include legal, financial and commercial instruments, credit cards, and packaging for such items as software, art, and other items where forgery of the item may be a concern. In one embodiment of the invention light is selectively passed by a shutter, and a spatial filter then cleans the beam to remove undesirable frequency components. A liquid crystal display (LCD) dynamically receives a data stream from a computer where each of the displayed data values presents an optical characteristic (for example density, phase, or polarization) to the filtered beam and causes diffraction into a plurality of diffracted beams, the character of which is dependent on the data displayed. A mask selectively passes only predetermined ones of the beams so that only frequency components that will generate the desired optical interference fringes are allowed to pass. Additional optical components receive the passed beams and redirect them to overlap at an output plane to form interference fringes. These interference fringes can have a very high spatial frequency so that extremely fine lines or small objects, including text and graphics, can be recorded.

A computer-generated hologram recording apparatus includes a diffraction image generator which receives an input image signal representing an object and computes a corresponding diffraction pattern with a first sampling density. An interpolation processor is connected to the diffraction image generator via an intermediate page memory. The interpolation processor subjects the diffraction pattern to the interpolation process to create an interpolated diffraction pattern with an increased second sampling density. An interference pattern generator is connected to the interpolation processor to compute an interference caused pattern between the interpolated diffraction pattern and a reference wave by converting amplitude and phase distributions of the input image signal into the intensity distribution. A multi-beam scan printing apparatus records the interference pattern on a previously selected recording medium for later reproduction by use of white light.

Systems and methods are directed to automatically generating a three-dimensional (3D) holographic presentation from a two-dimensional (2D) slide presentation. A network system receives an indication to generate the 3D holographic presentation, which causes automatic generation of the 3D holographic presentation by the network system. In response to receiving the indication, the network system accesses the 2D slide presentation from a user device associated with a presenter and accesses, from a mapping database, a plurality of mappings that indicate how to convert elements of each slide of the 2D slide presentation into a 3D format. The network system then transforms elements of each slide from a 2D format into the 3D format based on the plurality of mappings. The 3D holographic presentation is generated from the transformed elements by blending the transformed elements with a background and/or real-world image data captured by an image capture device.

We describe a holographic head-up display and a holographic optical sight, for displaying, in an eye box of the display/sight, a virtual image comprising one or more substantially two-dimensional images, the head-up display comprising: a laser light source; a spatial light modulator (SLM) to display a hologram of the two-dimensional images; illumination optics in an optical path between said laser light source and said SLM to illuminate said SLM; and imaging optics to image a plane of said SLM comprising said hologram into an SLM image plane in said eye box such that the lens of the eye of an observer of said head-up display performs a space-frequency transform of said hologram on said SLM to generate an image within said observer's eye corresponding to the two-dimensional images.
