Abstract:
An angle filter for electromagnetic radiation having a predetermined wavelength .lambda.. The angle filter includes a planar-parallel pair of perforated conductive plates having arrays of periodic perforations. The perforations are spaced apart for creating grating lobes between the plates at the predetermined wavelength .lambda. at incidence angles greater than .theta..sub.G. All of the perforations in both plates are identical. The spacing between the perforations in both plates is identical. The plates are staggered so that the perforations in at least one dimension of one plate are aligned between the perforations in the corresponding dimension of the other plate for minimizing coupling between the plates at incidence angles somewhat greater than .theta..sub.G in a plane corresponding to the one dimension. The center-to-center spacing between perforations in the one dimension is equal to .lambda. divided by 2 sin .theta., wherein .theta. is an incidence angle greater than .theta..sub.G. In an embodiment in which the plates contain the periodic perforations in two normal dimension, which define E and H-planes, the plates are staggered so that the perforations in both dimensions of one plate are aligned between the perforations in the corresponding dimensions of the other plate for minimizing coupling between the plates over a range of incidence angles in both the E and H-planes.

A compact Butler matrix consists a planar multilayer structure comprising N parallel metal plate waveguides PPW, stacked one on top of the other, two adjacent waveguides PPW comprising a common wall consisting of one of the metal plates. The couplers, the phase-shifters and the crossover devices of the Butler matrix consist of metasurfaces incorporated in the metal plates. The planar two-dimensional beam-former can comprise a Butler matrix with waveguides PPW associated with optical lenses incorporated in each waveguide PPW. Alternatively, the planar two-dimensional beam-former can comprise an upper stage consisting of a Butler matrix with waveguides PPW, and a lower stage comprising waveguides PPW equipped with incorporated reflectors, the two stages being connected in series.

A configurable deflection system for an incident microwave frequency beam exhibiting a wavelength contained in a band of wavelengths corresponding to the microwave frequencies, comprising: a first and a second diffractive dielectric component suitable for each performing a rotation about a rotation axis Z, the deflection system being suitable for generating a microwave frequency beam by diffraction of the incident microwave frequency beam on the first and second components, the microwave frequency beam being oriented according to an angle that is a function of the angular positioning between the first and said second diffractive components, the first and second components respectively exhibiting a first and second periodic structure of first and second periods according to a first and second axis, the first and second structures respectively comprising a plurality of first and second primary microstructures formed respectively on a first and second substrate of first and second substrate refractive indices.
Abstract:
Optical axis as central axis is defined as z-axis, and axes perpendicular to z-axis are defined as x- and y-axis. Metallic flat plates are formed parallel to x-z plane to overlap each other and be separated by a given distance. Multiple flat plates except the top flat plate and bottom flat plate are each provided with multiple through holes. Central flat plates are each provided with through holes of a first radius. Intermediate flat plates arranged between central flat plate and top flat plate and between central flat plate and bottom flat plate are each provided with through holes of a second radius smaller than first radius. Second radius of through holes formed in an intermediate flat plate arranged in a position farther from central flat plate is smaller than second size of through holes formed in an intermediate flat plate arranged in a position closer to central flat plate.
