摘要:
Disclosed herein is a charging method for adjusting the charging current. The charging method includes the following steps: reading a present number of times of charging/discharging cycle and a rated number of times of charging/discharging cycle by a charging system; computing a charging/discharging ratio between the present number of times of charging/discharging cycle and the rated number of times of charging/discharging cycle by the charging system; generating a current drop ratio from a function of the charging/discharging ratio and a percent charging current by the charging system, wherein the current drop ratio is in a range of 0 to 1; and the charging system adjusting the charging current of a rechargeable battery based on the current drop ratio.

Disclosed herein are an electronic device and a method for detecting the swelling of a battery The electronic device includes a battery module, a swelling detection module, and a system. The battery module includes at least one battery therein. The deformation module is deposed within the battery module and is configured to detect the swelling of the battery thereby generating a signal. The system is configured to receive the signal directly transmitted from the deformation module, and to determine whether the signal is greater than a first setting value or less than a second setting value, such that when the signal is greater than the first setting value or less than the second setting value, the system activates a protection mechanism to prevent the battery from further swelling.

Disclosed are methods for charging batteries utilizing a charge balance approach, and charger systems using those methods. In one example, a method for charging a battery includes monitoring an amount of charge released by the battery while in a discharge state, recording the amount of charge released while in the discharge state, applying a voltage which results in current in reverse direction to the battery at a first voltage level for a time sufficient to introduce an amount of charge substantially equal to the recorded amount of charge released by the battery while in the discharge state, and maintaining the battery in a stand-by mode by applying a voltage which results in current in reverse direction to the battery at a second voltage level, the second voltage level being in a range sufficient to prevent self-discharge of the battery and insufficient to induce evaporation of electrolyte in the battery.

A battery pack raises an alarm under overheated or high pressure conditions in the battery pack. The alarm is raised from the battery pack or an external device that is coupled with the battery pack when the temperature or the pressure of the battery pack exceeds a predetermined level. The battery pack includes a terminal that is coupled with a charging device or an external device, a battery cell coupled with the terminal so that the battery cell can be charged or discharged, a sensor that is installed in the battery cell to detect at least one of a temperature and a pressure of the battery cell, and an alarm unit that compares a value detected by the sensor with a reference level and raises an alarm for a user when the value detected by the sensor exceeds the reference level.

A rechargeable electrochemical cell is provided having a pressure-responsive apparatus for determining a charge termination point. In particular, a reversible pressure-responsive switch may be disposed in a rechargeable cell. A sensor determines when the switch has reacted in a predetermined manner, thus indicating that the internal pressure within the cell has reached a predetermined threshold. The sensor is part of sensing circuitry that is linked to a charger having automatic charging modes depending on the status of the sensing circuit.

A battery charge control device is capable of detecting a gassing state in a battery without using a temperature sensor. Under condition of charging the battery 5 with a charging current, when a terminal voltage Vi of the battery 5 monitored by the device exceeds a threshold value, a temporary-gassing detecting unit 23 informs a voltage regulation calculating unit 24 that the battery 5 is in course of reaching its gassing state. The voltage regulation calculating unit 24 calculates a changing rate of terminal voltage Vi of the battery 5 while it is in course of reaching the gassing state. When the calculated changing rate exceeds a preset decision value, a gassing detecting unit 25 judges that the battery 5 has just reached the gassing state. A decision value renewing unit 27 changes the decision value corresponding to the charging current.
